I'm new to the site and to these machines.  I just got a early 80's square top USS 8 64.  I lurked around the site for a few days to research & learn.  Here's where I am now :

Cleaned the machine (whew !) changed to CoinCo to work at .25, let her run a little while, stocked up with product and it's working great.  I "snugged" up the door latch since it seemed to need it, I could feel a little cold air at the top.  I was getting a good bit of water in the drain pan before I snugged it up.  Don't know about now.

I will need to get a "Correct Change" bulb and a neon bulb for the door.  Other than that it's good to go.  The machine is in my shop and it seems like every time I go down there the fan is running.  Not the compressor, it cycles off and on like it should.  Does the fan run alot and does it run when the compressor is not running?

I love the site and the members seem like really good people.  I'm glad I found it and hope I don't get hooked on these things !!!

Welcome to SMC Bob!! The fan in the cooling compartment will run all of the time to circulate the air.

Hey Bob... Welcome to the site... First thing.... we like pictures!

Now then.. the upper fan does run all the time in the cabinet. This circulates the cold air around the products. The lower fan runs with the compressor only.

For the lights - I bought my correct change bulb at Funtronics, a sponsor of this site. The fluorescent bulb can be gotten at your corner Home Depot or Lowes.

I know I should have sent a picture!  It's in really good shape since it was an "inside" machine.  I'll get a picture on here before the weekends over !  Thanks for the info and the quick response.

Here are some pictures.  Story is that the machine was in an old country store, owner died, his wife gave it to the guy I bought it from for helping her clean out the store.

Thanks again, I'll be around!

Thanks guys, I probably paid a little to much for it, $200.00, but I liked it.  That included the little dolly it's sitting on and delivery if I helped !  So far so good, it's been running since Thursday evening and all is well.

Thats a good price! I've paid less, but in much worse condition. Good machine to make you want to buy a 2nd and a 3rd machine..    '<img'>

I'm going to fight the addiction as hard as I can.  I already have CATD (Chronic Anitque Tractor Disease) and there's no cure.  I have caught myself looking on Craigs List at machines other than the usual tractors & parts.

Happy Fathers Day to all..........

Bryan,

I looked at your pix of the Ideall 55 restoration, WOW !
That thing is fine.  My Grand Dad had one of those in his store in Cario Ga.  I used to sit on top of it when I was young.  You do good work!  That's a keeper.
