I'm in the process of restoring a gbv50 and need to remove the compressor. There are two fittings to unscrew; one to the compressor and one to the fan. Can both of these unscrewed without losing any coolant or gas ? Also, is there a specific color of red to use when painting the cooler? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

DO NOT unscrew those fittings, you will lose all your freon. The manufacturer left you enough copper line to swing the compressor out of the way so you can clean and paint it, and the box.
