So I got the ideal 55 rack today I won a few weeks ago. I think ebay sellers got me again, I guess I should have asked more questions. It is really rust pitted . I think I will have to feather fill the whole rack and prime and paint this one '<img'> No powder coating '<img'>  What do you guts do in this situation? besides buy the after market rack like I should have '<img'> I thought the original part would be the way to go. I think I can save this one it's just going to take some extra work.   '<img'>

You can get powder coat in a hammer tone look if you would like, Sandblast and go this route it will hide all the pits in the metal.

I thought about that but some areas there's larger pitting but I guess It could still be an option. How much abuse does a rack really take '<img'> I could buy the expensive ceramic clear coat and see how it holds up to the abuse , and just fix very inch of it with polyester and featherfill. and then prime and paint it base coat/ clear coat.

If your easy on it there shouldnt be much abuse at all, if you start slamming bottles and just flinging them from side to side I can see where you would have problems.

Send the rack in for sandblast and powdercoat as is ( not the
aluminum flapper though)
It will come back chip protective along the slide areas.
Now fill the pits that were left by rust on the top
viewing area......and hammertone them same color.
Most racks have this problem, so we think you made the right
choice.........choosing to stay original is best
