Moving Again

Thanks guys. I will try and be safe in Malaysia. I am going to KL wich is a rather safe city. I am also going to be in a really good part of town. Now I just need to learn to drive on the wrong side of the road.  '>

Jim yes I did go to Embry. I have a commercial pilots license and my degree was in Air traffic control. The govt took two year on my background check and in that time they cut the pay for controllers. By the time they called to give me a job I had already given up on them. Two year of waiting is a long time. I figured if I can work for my Dad for a few years I could build a good resume and come home and get a better job. I am not sorry I didn't take the ATC job. All of my friend that were in school with me hate it.

It is cool seeing all of these places. Next month I have to go to China. We are going to a remote city in the north almost to mongolia. That should be neet. I also have a trip to Hydrabad India in a month or two. Yes I am coming home. It looks like it wll be in July. I think I will be back for 2 to 3 weeks.

Good luck with your move Josh! I've had a chance to visit Malaysia as well, granted it was only 3-4 days. In fact, I still have a bunch of Malaysian currency. I forget what the exchange rate was then (1994) for USD to Ringits (Malay money)....It's really neat that you are getting the chance to travel like this though.

Years later you will look back on this and be pretty satisfied at being able to travel around and see parts of the world that most never even hear about let alone see. By the time I turned 25 I had already seen in the neighborhood of 32 countries (courtesy of the United States Navy!) I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world! '>

2 years may seem like a long time at your age Josh.

         Sure, go see the world and help your Dad get
this buisness rolling, but you really should keep your license current.   Air traffic controller is a pretty responsible title to carry, and you worked hard to get it.

Well I can never be a controller again. Once you turn down the offer it is gone and can never happen again. I still have my Commercial pilots license. I will always have it. It is no longer current but a few months of studying and a check ride and it is current again. I am going to go up for a few flights when I am back in the US. If I have the money I will get my currency back. Then I can convert my FAA licence to CAA and fly here in asia with just a simple test and a check ride. They cut the pay so bad in the ATC field I would never take the job anyway. Starting salery of $17,000 with a max of $80,000 for the most stressfull job on the planet and the second highest suicide rate of any profession. (second to dentistry) And with the crazy price of going to Embry Riddle it just doesn't seem worth it. If all else failed I would probably go be a flight instructor. I would make just a little less than a controller and it would be a great job. Anyway I like it here.

Proctologists I can understand, but Dentists???  '>

Yep statistics say that the highest suicide rate of any other profession is dintists. I have no idea why. I can understand why ATC is #2
