Well my buddy and SMC member Vendobaldtops thinned out his collection of 81's. I think he had 5 of them?? Anyways, since I had helped him out in the past with picking up machines, he gave me first shot at them. Fair price for a complete nice machine. I plan on having it resotred so the shape of the paint did not matter, it was the shape of the body that sold me on this one. I'm happy but if you ask my wife you will get a whole differant story.

SO Vendo Bald Tops is holding out on us... Looks like a Pop Machine graveyard... would be a neat picture just of all the old machines lined up ready for restoration... Nice Score!!!
Would love to see more photos of the "Stash"... '<img'>

2006 was a good year for collecting...problem is, I have no space.  I am moving these machines and working on some trades in order to move into collecting nice original machines...I hope to have one in a few weeks so I will post a pic if / when I get it....here's a pic of the 81 machines from a slightly different view....

Here is the story behind the machines.  It was an 81B type of year....

- Picked up missing parts 81B last spring locally.  Working on trade with that one.

- Paid too much for an amateur restoration of an 81B from an old dude who wouldn't budge on price....machine was clean, complete, and cooled great...had a slightly rusty pan though and deserved a complete restoration.  It will get that now.  Machine was in Napa Valley.

- Picked up another 81B locally from guy who never got around to restoring it in November.  He had some other machines too.

- Picked up clean and straight 81B last month thanks to  Victor on craigslist.

Moved some parts around and sold Victor a solid 81B, knowing he would get it restored right without a rust bucket on hand.

Signguy,

Looks like your collection is doing just fine!

Yeah, it is cool that Victor is local and we have become pretty good friends...but instead of being out on the road junk'in for machines on the weekends, we spend more time on the phone coming up with strategies to appease our wives!

I think we need a section just to deal with this!!!

I can't complain too much, as long as I don't bring much more in the house, she has been quite understanding, and she loves it when the "Coke Fund" buys something for the house for "Her" rooms!!! That helps alot!

Mine too! When we were dating, she actually got a little annoyed with me when I didn't ask her to go with me on one of my "expiditions" to pick up a machine.

Now that we're married, she keeps me motivated to look for deals and encourages me while restoring them. On the other hand she also helps me keep things in perspective. She'll question me sometimes as to the real "need vs. want" of the situation. (need vs. want?) '<img'>  I thought they were interchangeable!! '<img'>

My neighbor once told me "if you want to buy a boat, tell your wife you are thinking about taking flying lessons."  Perhaps a variation would work. If you want to restore a Coke machine, tell your wife your thinking about picking up a '57 Chevy to restore?
