I was playing around with the WD-5 a little and was going to replace the T-stat / wiring and see if I could get it cooling and cycling properly.
It is all mostly a 3-wire configuration except for the part pictured below (2-wire). I do not know what it is or was, as it looks trashed.
One wire was on a post along with leads to the Evap fan, line cord and T-Stat.
The other wire was on a post with the Evap fan ground wire.
At first I thought it was a starter of some sort, but there is no connection to the compressor. I do not think the black stuff around it came out of it, but some may have. I believe the black stuff was just to keep it secure in the box next to the T-Stat.
First pic is untouched... Second is of the part removed.
Any ideas???

That my friend is a start capacitor, used to supply split-phase voltage to the evaportor fans motor 3rd wire. up in the box, you wont need it if you replace the evap' motor with a modern 2-wire unit.

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001...  Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan. |

This is how my wd12 is wired, instead of a capactitor, it uses a leg of the run winding to split the phase for the compressor motors 3rd wire.

I just found that out for myself, but it is not for the compressor. According to the manual that Timsmore scanned for all interested, it is capacitor for the evaporator fan motor. For all that have the scans, it is on page 29 (8-25 manual reference) of Chapter 8 - Westinghouse Refrigeration Units. Anyway, thank guys!

Where I can buy a replacement capacitor of approximately the same size to mount in the original housing. Mine is 3" x 2" x 1". I am hoping to buy an original replacement 3-wire motor, as it has unusual mounting holes on 'wings' that are 180 degrees apart.
