Well I just got back from the long 900 mile round trip voyage to pick up this 44 in new Orleans. It is in alot better shape than I thought. This machine was on ebay but I emailed him with a question about the reserve and he offered to sell it to me outright. At first he wanted the money up front before picking it up and he had no feedbacks. I thought it was a scam untill he finally said that cash would be fine. So $1,200 later and it is mine. I figure I have 1,350 in it once you figure in gas but I still think it was a heck of a deal. The white is really yellowed but it seems to be paint. I quickly tried to buff it off and it didn't go away and the residue on the rag is yellow. I think someone tried to clear coat the machine with some cheep clear and it turned yellow. I will try and sand it tomorrow. I still haven't decided what to do with it yet. There is some rust but not too bad. Just usual belt line and some at one side bottom. I just thought I would brag. Boy it was a long day and New Orleans is trashed. I experienced 3 hurricains in Daytona two years ago and all three didn't even come close to what this looked like and it is months later.

Thanks Eric. I want it all yellow with red letters like the 81's. I will get good pics for you today. I have some but I don't think it shows the sides enough.

Nice score Josh. I like the small coin mech. mounted into a large mech. shell.
If I were you, I would not restore it........I would paint it.  When you spray the rustmort on, you will watch the top turn white.  You can paint the red, even ignore the dent in the rear. Whoever buys it can have the machine restored later.
At least this way it leaves your shop nicer than it came in, and saves you a lot of time and money on a full restoration.

I went and bought the rustmort. It seems to work good. It didn't want to work on the front but it was working slowly. Here it is so far. I had to apply it 3 or 4 times.

By the way the rustmort did not work. I haven't been to the shop in a few days and when I got there it had turned black. I scrubbed it off just like Glen said before I left and it still turned black. Now it wont even sand off. Oh well looks like I will have to paint the whole thing now.

Let me do a front on view of the cap
(for the side) and I think that 3/4 turn cap would be cool on the lower bottom.

Well the 44 works great. I put a new line cord on it and it runs and cycles great. It also vends good. I think I am going to have to sell it though. If anyone is interested in it let me know.

No, but is like an acid, works slow, seeks out rust. The paint is actually a little soft and sticky for a few days after using this stuff.
