I'm after a little bit of help and advice.
My 40th birthday is approaching (April) and I want my famil to chip in and buy me a present that I can look back on years to come and admire.
I have been taken by the Pam Soda clocks that were made in the 1950's and have been watching them on Ebay for a while.
However, I know next to nothing about them. Does anyone clooect clocks. Could you perhaps give me a breif history outline as to what to look for. I'd like something other than Coca-Cola possibly Dr.Pepper or another US Soda make.
Any help that you could provide a complete nvice would be greatly appreciated.
Dave
PS... If I win that lottery I'll have one of everything

They are re-making/repro-ing the double bubble clocks. Made by the same company that made the originals.... theres a Dr Pepper 10-2-4 , a Nesbitts, a Orange Crush and another soda I believe... I want the Dr Pepper .... Super Quality but are becoming hard to find. That's a great idea... they are around $175 (US) sure someone here could show you a site that carries them.

Selfish Plug...
I have a few available in our SMC Vending Shop: Double Bubble Clocks
As far as I've heard, the Dr. Pepper clocks have been discontinued until another manufacturer can reproduce them; this is what has made them difficult to locate.

Hmmm wonder why. I read on some site that sold them it was from the original manufacturer.... wonder if they lost/dropped their license.... Can't see why there they can make one and not the other.... same molds.... just differnet art. Must be a License thing... wouldn't you know... I thought that was the best looking one.... A buddy has the OC one very nice and well made.

Dave, do a search for awsum advertising. They are all reproductions but he has the largest line of different double bubble clocks I have seen. He seems like a nice fellow and he is trying to make me a new glass for my Griesedieck Brothers Beer Clock. I like his seven up and Hires Root Beer. He has a price of 199.00 but will let you make him an offer...

Dave Johnston here in Ca. is reproducing all the pam clocks. He lives about 2 hours from me. He also reproduces the Jr coolers and ice chest. I have a couple of original round pam clocks. One is a Mint condition "Perfect Circle Piston Rings" that hangs in my shop. I found this one hanging on the wall and still in operation at a cement plant in Alberta, Edmondton Canada when I was there on a project. The other one is a "Whistle Soda" round clock. '>

Quote (davethebirdman @ Jan. 26 2006,12:45) | I was hoping that I might be able to get hold of an original. | Dave, other than you and us.......once it is hanging on your wall, who will notice if it's real? Nice original double bubble clocks sell for more than $1000.00 to collectors here. The reproductions look real nice, no paint flaking off the glass. You may also consider the safer shipping, the packaging is made to fit the clock.

Dave, I picked up this original at an estate auction last year. Got it for $225. Did some slight restoration to some flaking paint and clear coat to seal and preserve. It ran fine for about 2 weeks,, then the old motor gave out. Was difficult to find a replacement but finally found one on the internet..was about $40 I think. I don't think the repo's have the Pam lettering at the top like mine pictured. Date of this one is 1965.

Dave, I am with Moondawg the repro's are super nice and you really have to look close to tell the difference.
Most of the orginals go for at least $700 plus unless you just get lucky and find a deal.
I do know of an orginal Dr Pepper that a friend of mine has it is the octagon style with neon around the edge. He wants $800 for it but it is a very nice clock that is about the best I have heard on an orginal soda pop clock...

Hello Everyone.
Glenn - I take your point about nobody knowing and especially the packing. It will have to go a fair way.
I found this today whilst searching Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws....IT&rd=1
Has anyone got any comments on this. I welcome all your points of view and will probably air towards a new rather than origninal.
Dave

That's a nice looking DP clock. I don't think the florescent ring light inside is the original light. '>

I got this clock from a relative. I had to refinish the case and had a sign painter redo the face. But, when the electricity goes out or blinks, you have to spin a starter on the back to get the clock going again.

Well
looks like the clock might be on hold for a while. The wife, who has just discovered how to navigate around Ebay found this last night.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....6538455
Bought without permission and signed consent.
She hasn't found the Hershey machine I bought a while back yet so although there are hostilities in the household we are still negociating. When she finds the Hershey it will be all out War... If only I'd won the lottery.
