Jim

I have received a lot of input & questions on this Choice Vend 299 that I am working on. I am certainly not an expert on these newer big box machines that vend several different flavors but maybe we could add a new category for the big box machines. We do get questions here from time to time from a few "One Post Wonders" asking questions about these type machines. Maybe we could keep them around with a special section for these things.

Just a good idea that will cause you some more work!

That would be a great thing to add to the board.

Anything 70's to present would help those of us that have machines from that era.

I'm listening...
You guys/gals would like a new Discussion Area called "70's Machines/Coolers"...

Let me ask this:
Do you (everybody) think there are too many categories?
And I think it may be time to dissolve SMC Auctions and remove the associated Discussion Areas...

I just always figured that they (70's to present) fell under the "post 60's" board and I still think that works.

Yeah I agree I just put stuff for 70 under post-60s
Maybe just under Soda-Machines.com Auction: Put
Announcements, Auctions, Swap Meets, Buyer/seller
under one area. that would eliminate Auction Problems and Auction Items
those could just go under Auction.

Just me

Hmm, sometimes more isn't better. I'd say that "late models" & '70's machine still fit nicely under "post 60's" , but I also see where the seperate "late models" catagory (over in the "machines for sale") area comes in handy...the complicated part comes with determining a cut-off point that you are going to declare a machine a "late-model" (80's & up?)this would include, say Choicevends, Rock-Ola's, Dixie-Narco's, Royal-Vender's,True/Bevco upright coolers & the big flat-paneled & bubble front monster machines, including the bigger Vendos, Cavaliers, etc. I know that sometimes a "latemodel" discussion gets lost and/or buried in the post '60's area though...

Here's a visual of my 2 cents worth.
I think Swap Meet and Auctions should go together..

I'll say this. When you first come to the board it is confusing.
That's why us newbies put questions in the wrong place.
But once you get the hang of the board it does make perfect sense! '<img'>

One day I hope to be a nickel '<img'>

Personally -  I go to new posts & generally read most if not all the posts.  When I'm looking for info I use the search capability.  So it won't really affect me but... here's my 2 cents anyway.

Dr. G's post is the clearest for me, so take my comments as a delta to his suggestion.
- roundtops & squaretops are too specific for me... where would we put coolers and sliders.  Would go with Pre-60's, Sixties and & Seventies.
- Like the market place idea but would like to have 3 groups.... Keep Swap Meet as it is (and as Dr G suggests), move Price Estimates into the category and and one more Other/Misc to cover ebay, craigslist, etc, etc
- if you want to get carried away you could combine Trouble-Shooting and Restorations into a single category also (leave the 5 forums as they are)

Good point, I kinda forgot about them  ':blushing:' (unless they go in their own area....or is that too many categories? '<img'> )

I also read "new posts" and use search. Here is my thoughts:
"Price Estimate" at the top for the folks just stopping by.
Pre 60's soda machines
60's to early 80's soda machines
80's to present soda machines
Coolers/sliders
I like Bryans idea for the market place, but leave restorations/ts as is. Reason to break at the early 80's is some machines (USS-64) had a production run from early 70's to early 80's.

Won't changing the catagories make it hard to search for older posts? I kind of like things the way they are. I have had some questions about newer machines and have just put them in the post 60's machines section. Just my two cents.

I like the dialog/suggestions and would like to do the best for the most members.
I've just been thinking lately that the Discsussion Areas are becoming too complex and as someone stated, it can be overwhelming looking for info...
I'll get some time on Wed. night to modify things; in the meantime, I'll listen to the feedback and go from there...
Once I make some changes, I'll look for some more feedback...
Oh yea, just for the record, I think "New Posts" is a hidden treasure feature if you're not using it!

Thought about that as well. Opens a nasty can of worms. If a disscussion area no longer exists, then does Jim need to add search function for all open and closed forums? Works fine for me as it is. Jims call on what if anything needs changing.

One thing we can all to do to make the searches easier is when starting a topic is to put the model number in the topic title. This way everyone knows what machine is being discussed. 2 cent's

I used to log on and sometimes find a post in here 2 weeks old with many replies I missed!  I agree with Jim..."new posts" is the way to keep up on all subjects.   Try it!   '<img'>
