Hi all,

Very shortly I'll be looking to list my 70's squaretop cornelius on ebay.. and I'm looking for simple shipping services where the seller doesn't have to do anything..

I'm in ON, Canada and would be happy to ship across the border to say MI or NY, but I don't have access to a truck, nor palettes or shrink wrap.

Can someone reccomend a suitable service for me ?

Btw, it's only a small machine.. around 5'1" high, 2'6" wide and 250lbs..

If your willing to put on a pallet and take to a local Forward Air it can be a real Deal Maker. If the shipper has to come by and pick up and crate it can run more than the cost of the machine believe it or not!

Does anything like North American Van lines service your area?  Several people here have mentioned using them.  For what seems a great price, they come to your place, wrap the machine, ship it to the door at the other end.  Would greatly expand your range and possible buyers.  I am sure someone here will offer more details.

Nearest air freight depot of any kind would be Toronto, which is 3 hours drive from here.. (I don't drive so I would have to pay someone with a truck to drive me, and pay for a tank of gas on top of that..)

North American Van lines might be an option.. I think they have agents probably 45 mins to 1hr away from here.. if they are a door-to-door service that might be the best option..

North American is great. they will drop it off at your door step. They are really nice people and do a great job. In the US it is $333.80 for a machine to be shipped up to 1500 miles. Not to bad for door to door service.

You can also give Fedexfreight a try, they have a termianl in Windsor, Ont....

Requested location   WINDSOR, ON
 Service center   WIN
WINDSOR
3795 WEBSTER DRIVE
MAIDSTONE, ON NOR1K0
Phone: 1.877.242.9333
Fax: 1.519.737.1718

your can drop the machine off at the dock & they'll put it on a pallet, wrap it, whatever you need, remember, with any shipping co. that you will pay for convienance, so door to door pickup & delivery will cost more than Termianl to terminal pickup...

I don't know about ForwardAir in your guys locations, but Metro Detroit is a pain in the A**, I've received machines from them OK, shipped in from other sellers, but when ever I think about using them to ship a machine out, it's always a hassle, they insist that the machine be crated, they don't offer the cratting service themselves, they contract it out to "fly but night" crating service. which charges at least $125.00 to crate it up. the  machines I've received through them , are always just cardboarded/shrink wrapped & on a pallet. I guess Detroits terminal is just being difficult,... PS their website  $UCK$, you can't get a quote, unless you're shipping a motorcycle in one of their stupid containers ( for an additional fee of course $$$) but hey, at least when I have a seller ship me a machine, it's cheap, just wishing it would work out for me whn I have to ship one out... Yes call (651) 639-2842. That is a direct line to a really nice lady named Michelle. Joey gave me this number. She says that they ship alot of old stuff like this and it is no problem. When I shipped my Jacobs they called me to let me know it was in Memphis but they wouldn't have a driver to drop it off untill later the next day. I asked where they were located and it was just down the street so I went and picked it up myself. I ended up staying and talking with the guys at the dock for over an hour. Really nice people. They say that they ship all kinds of antiques and they seem to take good care of everything. When I got there my Jacobs was shrinkwraped and covered in a moving blanket and shrinkwraped again. When the guy went to move it he put another blanket on it before moving it with the dolly. It really seemed they had done this before and take good care of what they are shipping. After that I am sold. After all most people want at least $100-$150 to pallet and deliver a machine to a terminal and with forward air you will pay at least $125 for shipping so in the long run it is easier to just pay the $333 and have NAVL do everything for you and sleep well knowing it is going to get to you in one piece.

Given?  My behind.  Both sons have cars and earned every penny they cost.    On a lighter note, people who grow up and live in larger cities, like New York, many never learn to drive.  It costs so much to own and operate a car there that it is not pratical.  Couple this with a decent transit system, and no need to have a car.  Wish Miami had better mass transit.

It seems like that, or mommy and daddy at least let them drive their extra $40,000 car to school.  When I drive my '91 S-10 to work I have the most beat-up (rust) vehicle in all the lots.  Actually, most students drive nicer cars than the teachers!

(Here in Indiana, you can get your drivers license at 16 years and 1 month.)

Outside the cities that is definitely true that the car is king. Around larger cities there are probably more commuters who have a fewer number of cars. My wife and I only had one car for a few years and commuted together. Some people take the Metro buses or trains and others slug to work.

I bought my first car/truck at 14 years old. It was an 82 S10. My dad and I took it off the frame and completely restored the truck. Yes you heard that right we restored a piece of junk 82 S10. But it was a pretty cool truck. We even shaved the door handles so the doors opened with a remote. I am 24 years old and I have had 5 cars/trucks total.
