Being new to this game of restoring this slider, is there a general restoration guide that provides one with specs for the specific model number I have in addition to a little history of it?

Welcome Kyle.
For manuals, check out the Vendor Links on the top of this page, or from the Vendor's page on the SMC home page. Funtronics, Soda Jerks, Colamachines.com all carry service manuals for your Ideal, as well as parts.
I've also been happy with manuals I purchased onEbay from Harrison Collins, Ebay ID  is '459'.

Of course, pictures are required  The plus side is with a slider, 'Kito will never mention you have stuff piled on the top of the machine '<img'>
