Creighton, thanks for concern... the Cave Creek Complex, estimated at 80,000 acres and 20% contained, is about 5 miles from me (as the crow flies) but on the ther side of the mountain. Seems close but not really. We see the glow and smoke plume, expecially at night and the hot shot crews have taken over the fields and parking lots where my kids go to school. But so far it hasn't threatened my family directly and given the size of the fire the damage is relatively small as it has only burned a handful of homes and ranches.
With all the spring rain the southwest had this year, I think it's going to be a hot fiery summer for AZ and CA.

Yeah...it's the human factor that really makes it interesting. One of my fave's was this moron who got lost while hiking in San Diego County near the US/MEX border in the middle of the summer after a really wet winter (a lot of built up brush) and decided to cook off a signal flare to get somebody's attention....Needless to say, he got A LOT of somebody's attention!!
The lightning stikes are unavoidable, people are just stupid....

We have the fires here in Utah shutting down sections of the freeway!! We even have one town that may evacuated because of the fires and just 4 months ago was cut off due to flooding! Wish Mother Nature would make up her mind.

I am in Spanish Fork, about 60 miles south of Salt Lake City. My wifes grandparents and uncle live down in St. George closer to all of Mother Natures current doings.

because of all of the rain in SoCal this year it has all the makings of an ugly fire season, the last destructive fire we had here was set by a homeless person trying to stay warm who was mildly retarded and spoke an obscure chinese dialect, even though he caused a lot of destruction i felt sorry for the guy he spent nearly two months in a mental institution until they could find someone who could understand him.
