Rock-ola ccc5

I have rock-ola ccc5 and would like to set it up to free vend. Does anybody know how to this? Or where can I look for some info. Also looking for a Service manual.

Does it use a 9 pin "jones" plug (rectangular black plug) to connect the coin mech ?

Yes the plug has 9 pins. 8 flat pins and 1 round pin. The plug goes from the coin mech to a square box attached to the door. Hopefully this will help.

I rigged up the machine per the diagram and nothing vends, but I do hear some clicking inside of the box where the jones cable would plug into. Do you have any ideas what I could try next, or is there some test I can do to see what is wrong?

hmmm...I'm assuming that the machine is full enough to vend, most rock-olas have a minimum level of about 6 cans per rack/column...ie; the empty switches are "off"   '>

I dunno about that particular machine, but on mine if it's "sold out", the vend relay clicks twice.. (ie. credit locks in, then back out again)...

When it has something to vend, the relay clicks once (credit locks in), and then stays locked in untill you make a selection.. (after which it clicks back out)

OK I filled the machine up and still nothing. Hear it click ounce and puch a selection nothing and then clicks again in about 10-15 seconds later. Is it possible that the relay in the box is shot?

It's probably designed to hold the credit for 10 - 15 seconds only.. (instead of indefinately)

If the relay clicks it wouldn't be shot.. I would check the wiring to the vend mechanism/selection buttons.. something could be loose or broken..

OK I got to vend, but I have to puch the free vend button and the selection button at the same time. What does this tell me?

It's obviously not holding credit if it's doing that.. the question is why it's doing so..  does your machine use a time delay relay ? It should show it on the schematic if it does.. if you can't tell from that, look for a relay with stuff attached to it:

Yes it does have a time delay relay. I followed the schematic to the wiring and it seemed to be wired correctly. But need to do some more CSI work on it though.

Just curious, is it possible to wire the machine so you don't have to push the button, just walk up to it and select a soda?

Just have to thank you this site site one the best I have ever worked with. Specially for a novice at vending machines.

you could hookup a wire from pin#1 to pins no.'s 3 & 7, that would hold the vend relay closed. same as the free-play switch circut, but minus the switch...just hard-wired

It is a Very Bad Idea On earlier glass-door machines that have the soleniod on the bottom of the bottle vending gate, it wouldn't work for long as it would overheat the soleniod , ( they were designed for a 50% duty cycle) but on later multi-button machines like this Rock-Ola with a seperate vending relay it can be done. as the vending soleniod isn't engaged until the flavor button is pushed to accuate that columns 'mech. the vending relay was designed to hold a "credit" until the customer pushed a flavor button , or in this case the time-delay circut "timed-out" & dropped the credit after a given period.  Also it won't work on "pre-select" machines like say a Westinhouse WC102MD/Select-a-Matic" as it would just keep dropping bottles until the empty switch kicked in.

Thank you all!!! I got the machine to vend exactly the way you guys said. I had to do some CSI work from the schematic to the relay which of course was wired wrong.

Next project is get vendolator VF117 to vend and cool.

It vends with the hard-wired free play ?  Good to know on later machines you can hard wire the relay without causing problems.. I was always afraid it would end up welding the relay contacts closed or burning it out or something..
