I found this on ebay and I am wondering if it is worth it. I know they are slightly big so do they sell? I think this might be a good round top starter for me. What does everyone think? Thanks for the help in advance. ebay #6168898208

Please help!! I so want to hit the buy it now button. Also it says that it doesn't work and if that means doesn't cool I have a cooling system from a square top 96 ready to go in it. since it is in the carolinas It is somewhere between a 6 and 8 hour one way drive. I am on vacation this week so who cares. Darn I was trying to save money by not going to chicago.

If you don't pull the trigger, I probably will.  I have been looking for a 72 or 96 for some time.

Can't tell for sure where he is at yet but when I search within "10 miles" of my zip code...it comes up. So it is real close to me.  The sheet metal from the NEXTEL cup cars he has for sale kinda tipped me off he was close.

Josh,
This is about 3 miles from my house in here in NC.  Let me know what your gonna do...I do not want to buy it out from under since you saw it first.

I already cleared it with my Governor who agreed to lift the moratorium on Cola Machine buying for this particular machine for me.

I have emailed the seller asking to look at it.

Let me know as soon as you decide.  You can email me direct

Go for it Josh!

But if not, good luck Jeff. How cool that the govna' handed down a reprieve!

Hi Josh,
this is a great machine and I think it is really inexpensive.
If I were you I would buy it. '<img'>

I have to ask dad for a loan. He should be here in about a half hour. The only bad thing is a 16 hour round trip drive on my vacation. Yuck.

Well I have a friend at church that delivers RV's in his new F350 dually. I am going to see if he will get it for me if he is going to be close. They guy said that he is in no hurry to have it gone so I can take my time. He also sells Nascar sheet metal so I am going to buy some stuff for my brother-in-law. he is a huge Nascar fan.

Josh,
Let me know if I can help you with it some way.  I really wanted it     ...but do not want to bid against anyone on the SMC board.

Let me know when you are coming down, maybe we can meet up since it is only a few miles from my home.  I can get you  motel info etc...if you plan to stay local.

I think Jeff deserves a round of applause for being a nice guy and not bidding against a fellow SMC brother on a machine that he wanted.  Especially since it was just around the corner from him.

You're a good guy, Jeff ':<img:'>  .

I'll say it again - this is a great place to be...  ':drinkers:'

Jeff I didn't relize how bad you wanted the machine. I do appreciate your kindness in letting me decide first. I want to do the same for you now. even though I have bought it I want to give you the opportunity to go get it and keep it for yourself. It is a nice find but I will find others. If you really want the machine I want you to get it. I really do mean this. Please if you want it the machine is yours. send me an email at jdloman2000@yahoo.com and let me know what you want to do.

Here is a Cavalier 72. I think it is restorable. If so the price is right. Maybe both of you can own a nice Cavalier.

I think that 72 is beyond my ability. I am not too bad at working on these machines but I think that one is a little far gone. I already might have found another 96 that is closer to me so all will work out just fine.

Josh,
Thanks for the offer… you wanted it too and you saw it first...no big deal.  I have stumbled on some good deals before and I will again. No sense in me being greedy grabbing all the good ones up.  If you decide someday you no longer want it, how about giving me dibbs on it in case I have not found me one.  I have more “stuff” than I can say grace over now, one less machine will not send me over the edge.

If you do come to pick it up, let me know.  If your timing would permit you to come on the 3rd and/or 4th of  May, and if you are inclined to bring your brother in law, I will get you two in the garage at Lowe's Motor Speedway during testing for the May races and he can get some autographs to go with his sheet metal.

I will send my contact info via email.

Here you are wrong Josh. No difference as to ability.  After dis-assembly and sandblasting, the 96 and 72 will look identical, except for size.

I don't know the corners and the louvers look pretty bad on the 72. Well Jeff is going to get the 96. I am really happy that he got it. And it looks like I am going to visit him in May to go see the speedway with my Brother-in-law. Thanks again Jeff and please post pics when you get the machine.

yay! Everyone is happy. Very cool.
But honestly Josh, I don't think any soda machine is beyond your ability.
If we don't have you to look up to, who do we have?

Thank you for the kind words Mark. I will be honest I have never messed with the round tops before and my Vendo 23's will be the oldest thing I have ever done. Also I don't usually do my own painting although this spring I am going to learn how. I have done it before but that was when I was a kid.  I am thinking about possibly buying a few round tops to sit on for 10 years or so. I figure if the value of these machines go up the way that they have been it might be a wise investment.

OK, a big "THANK YOU" to Josh for letting me have the 96. An extraordinary gesture I must say…I told him on the phone I feel bad I said anything as it made it feel like I was trying to steal a kid’s lollipop.

I am going to pick it up around 7:00 tonight.  I will post pics this weekend.

Again, thanks to Josh.  All you guys (and gals) are great!

OK, I got the Cav 96.  It looks pretty solid.  It has some dings and dents, has several coats of paint and is missing 4 shelves.  No rust that I can see, wiring looks like a blind man with no thumbs, a mouse and several 5th grade science experiments were involved...which I think is going to explain why it will not run when plugged in.

Overall, pretty good shape I think.  I will take photos this weekend and post.

The guy had some nice stuff, he is mostly a car and petrolina buff.  He gave away a Glasco 55 last week to a friend helping him move to a new house.

Again, thanks Josh.

The plan is to restore it and use it to replace the Cav 51 sitting in my garage.  I have 2 sliders on the list in front of it to get finished.  I will see if I can get it running this weekend, if so I may put it to use right away.

BTW, I may know someone interested in your Dad's slider.

Here are some photos of the 96.  After rewiring the compressor, it started up right away.  Cools down to 30 degrees and with lots of thermostat control left.

I logged back in tonight after a long absence.  I was surprised the posts from way back when were all still here.  My username still turned up the old posts from back in the day although the posts no longer seem associated with my current login.  Reading back through the posts reminded me what a great community there is on here. I remember very well the kindness Josh extended letting me get this Cav 96 he had found.  The Cav 96 was restored and I’m still using it today.  I hope to be on here more again and re-engage with the great folks who make this a good place to be!  Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
