Hi all. This is my first post. My son is buying a Vendo 81D large
door machine but knows there may be some faults on it from the
vendor. If he buys it and at worst has to replace completely with
a restored unit, firstly how difficult would it be to source such a mechanism and if available what would be the likely price range
of this coin mechanism, many thanks

Hello Joe and son.
Welcome to the board! Great starter machine. Good news is the coin vend mech is available. You most likely will need a slug rejector as well. Bad news is the setup can be pricey. Amount will depend on condition. I've seen the range of +/- $250-$850.The $850 was restored to "as new" condition.

Plenty of helpfull folks here, someone may have an extra. You can check with the venders listed here. A check of eBay open/closed auctions will help. Marie at VintageVending may have one also.

We are very fond of machine pictures here so please post one if possible.
Again welcome,

Joe,

Welcome to SMC!
I recommend doing a little research as I believe the best consumer is an educated one!
I would contact some or all of the companies listed in the Parts Suppliers Section and see what you can find in availability and prices...
Does the machine in question have a coin mech or not and is this the reason for your search?

My six cents,

thx for replies.

Jim, unit does have coin mech already and crank does operate
bottle mechanism, opening and locking, but is set to freevend.
People I have spoken too say that if set on freevend then it is
more likely that mechanism may have been trashed to set up
this way. I do not want him to buy machine & then find he cannot
fix by cleaning and easy tweaking and then not be able to locate
another unit to simply switch over to the replacement mechanism,
or find that the sourcing of a replacement mechanism/slug rejector
is to pricey for him at this point.
If anyone else can assist in this matter, theirinput would be greatly
appreciated by his pa!!

What's wrong with using it freeplay? If it has been tinkered with, it was only a little lever either tied back or removed. Compare yours with another and difference will be obvious.  Coin mech. problem is minimal at this point
