I placed an ad in a local paper some time back looking for a machine for parts.
Today I get a call from a guy who didnt know what model his machine was, if it cooled or not all he knew is he had a new fan motor placed in it once. He assumed it was a Vendo 63, possibly 56 he hadnt looked. He assured me it "worked perfectly"
He actualy told me I was crazy if I didnt pay him 1000.00 for his machine.
His actual words were... "You are crazy, I have an antique here, you dont know what you are talking about. I want ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR IT".
I assured him all I needed at the time was a parts machine. He hung up on me.
What would you guys have done?'>

I would have hung up on him. Unless it was a roundtop. Do you know if it was a round or squaretop? How rude of him.

Not much you can do since people like that don't even want to listen to reason... Anyone that starts talking by saying "You're Crazy...", has to be a little off their rocker in my opinion.
If he would have had a conversation with you, I would have stated that the machine isn't worth that much if it's not working correctly and go from there...

"He said it was one of those little square machines."
Hey his loss that little ad gave 4 more leads on machines.
2 are chest machines. One ice cooled and 1 elec. Plus another 56.

I had a lady call today with a vendorlator 126 and she only wanted $800. There are a bunch of people out there that want a fortune for a rusty machine but for every few wasted calls there are one or two good ones and that what makes it worth it.

For a square top owned by a boor -> Tell him good luck and when he comes back to his senses he can drop it off at your place and you'll give him $150.

Good idea, dont think he will call back.
The 4th machine I got a call on is the one I am working on now, it's in my other post. So far cleaning up great.

Jasmine,
I guess that's what he gets for acting, eh? I ahven't yet placed an ad in the paper just due to my busy schedule but REALLY look forward to receiving call from the "'ignant people" (that's what people out here call guys like that, so I've been told!)
Hopefully you'll have better luck with that ad, and if worse come to worse, you still have the machine that your working on right now to focus you attention on! '>

I wouldn't give it another thought..... Oh yeah there are loons out there. I get their calls too from my ads but also got some ideal sliders, Cav.72, etc. calls There's stuff still out there and quite a lot of square tops yet. Those calls are kinda of funny to get once you score a good call..... Wouldn't it have been fun to tell them “Sounds like a bargan to me, can you haul it out to you driveway and have it ready and I'll be by to pick it up.”.... NOT! It'll be another 50 years till he gets that kinda money....

I'm going to check out the chest coolers first thing this weekend. Might be an interesting change from the squaretops while waiting on parts.
Got my eye on a Cav 64, just cant get to it for a while the owner is always out when I stop in. (he owns a salvage yard travels 3 states).
