Hello Chaps
Picked up a US Gas Pump today. Found it on eBay last week and did a deal. Paid lots more than I would have done your side but very happy with it.
There's a few minor dinks but no real rust. Must have spent its life somewhere nice and easy. Was very surprised when I collected it. Not that usual feeling in the belly of "what the hell have I wasted my money on now."
The globe that came with it is very heavy and all glass. I think it is probably real rather than a reproduction.
Thinking of doing a full strip down restoration and would welcome suggestions on what livery. Currently its Esso and Dino that are heads above everything else. Esso more so because we even have Esso over here.
Just a couple of questions (I know i could ask on Oldgas but much friendlier here) I can see that the v emblem is missing I'm assuming they are reproduced. I'm also missing what I believe to be the handle on the other side. There is a threaded screw type thing still present but nothing else.
I want to keep the glass globe and put a decal over the top of it. Do they sell decals for the globes or will I need to source one elsewhere.
Would welcome your suggestions for my early Xmas present. Oh by the way its under cover in the garage. Sneeked in whilst Mrs B was at work.
Dave

Hey Dave, Great score!! What model is it? Looks to be a M@S/ Wayne "Cyclops" model. You are missing the computer reset handle. 30 USD or so. Does it still have the motor and pump? Picked up a 1951 Wayne Model 80 myself. Linda took it well. Only comment was "well we didn't have one of these".
That looks to be an original. Is the globe Gulf as well? If so, I would just clean it up and call it good. Dino and Esso would be period correct. On old pumps Gulf is big here. It is what the vintage car racing crowd likes.
I haven't posted on oldgas either. Just stripping mine back to original Mobilegas. I'll post there when finished.
Sending a PM as well. Creighton

Great find ! Which handle is missing ? reset handle or the nozzle or one of the hose guards that look like handles. The reset handle are reproduced. also the V-embleme or the stainless trim that was on some pumps without the V. I saw the pump on ebay and i would save the globe original and buy a repro glass globe and use one of houndred sort of 13,5" lenses avalible. If you put a decal over the gulf logo it will shine trough decal if you have a light inside the globe. there are a few that sell the glass globe for 13,5 lenses but have you check this company http://www.glowballnostalgia.co.uk/page2.php a few miles from London. Did esso use the 900 series in England? i know these pump where used in some european countries. Here is mine 994 pump.

Thanks for the links guys. The one in the UK is only a couple of hours away. My pump is in dollars and cents so definitely from the other side of the pond. Never seen this type used in UK. Waiting for Mrs B to go to work so I can have another look at it. Kids sworn to secrecy. Have been doing a bit of research and came across this on Youtube. This guy has wired his pump up to actually act like its working. Very cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4JvXpyu-lU

"Sneeked in whilst Mrs B was at work" I think we all have been there one time or another.

I've got a buddy that sells those kits that when you lift the nozzle a little motor comes on and the computer comes to life. Pretty neat!

nice pump, I restored my Benett and bought a kit online that runs the computer..
I had a guy rebuid my computer and it turned out awesome and spins freely..
the guy in the youtube video went all out... pretty cool setup and engineering to get it all to work well.

Hi Guys
Been a bit quiet so thought I'd post a picture of the pump I mentioned at the top of this post. After nearly a year its finally completed.
The chrome was sent away to be re-done and six months later it was returned. It was lost three times and on one occasion I actually had to go down to the factory and search for it. Won't use them again.
Had to wait for the V emblem to be re-run but in the end I think its worth it. I'm please with the final product and one day might even get the chance to display it alongside my shell pump.
apologies for the poor quality picture.
Dave
