I picked up a pepsi 81 a little while back, has some surface rust but otherwise straight and complete. I like the worn down look but it's a little too worn. I didn't really want to do a full resto as I like the old look anyway.
Does anyone have a presentable pepsi 81 that they were going to restore anyway and would consider a swap? It would be a shame to restore something presentable if not necessary,
PM me,
thx

simply my opinion, but I always go with the
"would the wife let me put it in the house" mentality when it comes to appearance.
personally , I don't think this this is good enough, paint wise to be a keeper... and trust me, I like original machines, but sometimes you have to ask yourself the above question. and that usually answers it.
I would not feel this one falls in that category of Nice original...
My two cents

I believe he agrees with you John, I think he wants to trade up to a nice original.

moondawg is right, was thinking if someone was gonna restore a display-able machine anyway they wouldn't mind swapping it since this one is straight and complete,
maybe a long shot but I thought I'd throw it out there and see...

I understand what you are trying to do and it's a good idea. You might have to pony up just a little cash as well for someone to do the trade and then hopefully there is no shipping cost involved. Yours is close to leave as is but agree with you it's a little to far gone for that. Another option is sell off yours as it has great value and just find yourself a little nicer one. Nice problem to have though. Good luck.

Looks pretty solid and straight to me... the tub and shelves all look good too, it just needs a bath on the inside... just the paint ain't what she use to be. Maybe clean her up a bit and update some detailed pics so people see what you have... Love the all blue Pepsi 81s.. You have a good one there.

I think what he is asking is fairly reasonable. If someone has a machine with better paint, but still plans to strip it down and restore, then he is looking to potentially swap. If you are going to blast the paint off anyway, then you may not care if most of it is missing. He might give up his for one with a few more dents/dings but with presentable paint. Certainly doesn't hurt to throw it out there and see if anyone is game.

Thanks guys, yeah Brian that is pretty much what I was thinking, wouldn't mind a couple of dents if the rust wasn't there like mine...not sure how many nicer originals are sitting out there waiting to be restored though

Plus it's hard for you to put a dollar amount on a swap because if someone wants to do the trade I'm sure you would offer more if the machine is really nice as to just somewhat nice.
