Read an interesting article about an old fashioned drive-in chain of restraunts.

We have Sonic's around here (in PA) - fun to go to if you have a vintage car.  They have car-hops on roller skates.  Food is pretty ... meh... but on a nice summer evening its fun to stop for shakes or something.

Been to one in PA but none of the few we have here in NJ.

Agree the food isnt that great, but cheap and does give off that old drive in feel.

Sonic is very big here, dotted all over the map. Most of the small towns around here have one. The one here in town is a joke. Rude service, high prices, food quality slacks. Lunch hour rush everywhere else is swamped, Sonic if lucky will have 2-3 customers.

We had an A&W here until two years ago. I miss the try on the window and the quality of burgers. We do have a sonic 40 miles away but I'm not driving that far for a burger. Luckily we have two local drive ins that are great.

I know people would like a Sonic here in northern VA, but we have none right now. I can't think of anything similar around here.

The only Sonic I know of around here is on Rt1 north of boston. I will stop if I'm up that way sometimes. It's pretty good for fast food.

Allot of Sonic's popped up in the last few years in Metro-Detroit, there's one close enough to walk too.... I agree the food isn't the best but their "Frozen Favorites" are really good!

We still have a very nice 50s drive in still operating here in southeast Wisconsin during the summer months called "WAYNES DRIVE-IN"

http://www.foodspot.com/Clients/WI/Cedarburg/WaynesDriveIn/default.aspx?accid=17427

We always take my 47 chevy there on Thursday nights when they have the car hops on roller skates!!

There are still about 20 Dog N Suds left, mostly in Illinois and Michigan. I think this company owns the brand,
www.dognsudsbrand.com. They have a locations link. I have one about 25 miles from me but don't get there too often. The only one in Missouri and it is circa 1960s!

I remember the A&W in our town from when I was a kid.  It was our favorite, but it's long gone now.  We have 2 Sonic's and I don't care for the food, but their shakes are fantastic.  The peanut butter and banana version is great, we went by all the time during their 1/2 price summer shake deal.

We use to have the A&W drive-in also.. On the weekends it was packed. There was always a line of cars waiting to get in.. I don't know what happened to all those A&W's it was like one day they were here and next thing they were gone.. They use to be all over Minnesota now I don't think we have any.. There are several along the hwy that are vacant. You cant miss the style of the building they had. I sure do miss those!

We've had Sonic around here for over 15 years. I don't think they've ever gotten my order right.

We have a sonic near my house. It's always fun to see the reaction from the employees when I hook my drive-in tray on the window. Had one guy say he wishes all the customers had something like that since he did not have to squeeze between the car and menu to hand me the food.

When I first heard about Sonic I was delivering into Indiana and a trucker told me about them.I stopped at the first one I saw and was floored how great the food was and always managed to stop there at least once week.I then heard Michigan was getting them and COULDN"T wait..!! In fact the glass company I worked for delivered the glass to the location's. When I found out when there were going to be open off I went.!! The food was, putting it mildly, HORRIBLE...!!! I the hamburger was under cooked, the fries a pile of grease...just nasty.I sent our food back 3 times and they still didn't get it right.
Well I thought new opening, first night jitters and all but NOTHING has changed at ANY of the ones I have stopped at! I wouldn't feed that food to a starving dog..!! People have spread the word how bad they are and 6 of them that were on the building blocks have now been cancelled.I wouldn't be surprised if they start closing a few.

Sonic drive-in's are extremely common in the Deep South. Nearly every single small town has at least one, some have several.

Food is meh-to-sometimes-passable depending on what you get where, not cheap though. Even some of the "value menu" items are around $2. Good ice cream. Vanilla cone for $1.00, not bad eating. They charge an extra 30 cents for a dish though!  help

I used to think it would be kind of cool if Sega had went into a co-branding agreement with them, but I can see I would've never worked. They more than likely would have wound up in a legal fight over it at some point. Nowadays both the games and the food are overpriced garbage anyway.
