Glass isn't what it's cracked up to be

Hey all,
Bought replacement glass for my VMC 110 door. Still have one original piece that is cracked. The new glass is much thinner than the old glass, maybe by as much as 20%. Got mine at local hardware, are there different thicknesses that can be purchased. Can anyone add to this.

You should check out an Art-glass supplier for stained glass hobbyist.  glass does come in different thickness, from standard window glazing to tempered & safety glass.

Ace hardware measured my thickness of the glass and cut it my size needed .

 :needphotos:I got my glass at Ace also, but will try some glass companies tomorrow if they have a different variety of glass thicknesses.
Measured original glass and it is .012 and the new glass is .08, enough of a difference to fit more loosely in the channel.


Edited: original glass is .12 and new glass is .08....

        The 110 is supposed to have calking in the channels to keep the glass panels firm.

I did scrape out the bits of caulk in the channels, there was not much, wonder if it was just some dots of caulk that were added. I would rather find glass a little closer to the width of the wood channel. See what I can find today.

Update, called same hardware store to see if they have different thicknesses and yes they do, single and double strength....yes strength, not double width. Double is 1/8" thick and exactly the size use in machine. I just thought glass was glass, now I know. Mystery solved.

I went to get the new thickness of glass cut for bottle door and they did not have glass in the length I needed. Tried glass chain stores like Harmon, safe lite, etc. they wanted 2 days and $40 for the two 4" wide glass. That is out of the question, found a True Value hardware that had right glass and only cost $10 for both. Success!
