I went to my local Walmart today to pick up some general groceries and was surprised to find some different soda in glass bottles.  Others may have seen this before, but I have not.  It is called a "Mexican Fiesta" and it a 24 pack filled with four 6 packs of 12oz glass bottles (2-Coke, Sprite & Fanta).  It costs $19.99 for 24 bottles.

Thanks, I'm going to have to see if the local Walmart's carry them.  Funny how these are gaining popularity recently, used to be tough to find without going to international markets, and you usually couldn't buy them by the case.

Thanks for the post. I'll have to check to see if any of the locals are going to carry them.

Cool!   A lot of the grocery stores in my area are starting to carry glass again, but at $1 (+) per bottle, I'm sticking with the Mexi-Cokes at Sam's.

Would be nice to have some variety, I'll check my local <sigh> Wal-Mart.

Our WalMarts don't seem to carry anything in glass. I'll keep an eye out though. Costco does have the Cokes.

That's pretty cool.  I wonder if Costco will start carrying it.  Mexican Squirt is still the best.  You just have to find a Spanish grocer.

I hope you weren't doing the famous Hat Dance when they hit!  upside

Seriously, are we becoming Alta Mexico?

Ironic that the imported Coke still contains cane sugar, (last time I heard, anyway), but the domestic stuff contains liver nuke high fructose corn syrup.

Yes, the Mexican Cokes still use Cane Sugar, as do most sodas that are imported.  The US seems to be the only major market for HFCS.  Likely because we grow so much corn.

As far as I know, sucrose is sucrose so the actual flavor between them is no different, but I do admit to me there is a bit of a different "mouth feel" to the cane-sugar sweetened version.

IIRC, HFCS was banned in Europe some time ago. Flavor/texture differences aside, I wonder if HFCS is a long term health hazard.

I still drink to much Coca Cola though.  drinking

I've cut down to one per day, so I like to make sure it is one of the "good" Mexican Cokes - served Ice Cold from my Embossed Coke Ideal 55 Slider.   biggrin biggrin biggrin

Corn sugar gives a drier crispness to what it is used in compared to cane sugar. When I was brewing beer I used corn sugar when making American style light beers for the little flavor it imparted but it alway's gave a dry crispness that is part of the profile for that style of beer.

I also noticed that some stores sell the Mexican Pepsi in glass bottles, doesn't look like they are around me though  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pepsi-Mexican-Soda-12-oz/19802691

Thanks Ken - I guess that would explain the 'syrupy' feel of the sugar-sweetened Cokes.

The local grocery store here is  carrying the 12 oz. Mountain Dew and Pepsi in bottles.  For a buck and a quarter per bottle, I usually  pass right by, but hey, if someone wants them for their machine, let me know

I've got to admit, glass bottles would be easier to deal in the older vendors. They're just too expensive.

I guess they charge so much more because of additional shipping considerations, and maybe the risks associated with marketing glass bottles.

Or maybe it's just 'cause they can.

EDIT: I was referring mainly to the glass bottle domestic cokes they have continued to sell for some time. Almost $1 a small bottle.

That's an expensive little piece of glass.
You can buy a 2 liter plastic bottle of the same Coca Cola for 99 cents......... enough to fill 10 small bottles.

Sure, when those 2-liter bottles are on sale, 99 cents is doable. Usually $1 though. That's my favorite way to drink Coke.

The glass bottles are like 4.99 for 6/8.5 oz bottles.  jawdrop

Well, no luck at the local Walmart, but they did open a new Walmart grocery store up the road and I found that they sell some nice packer cuts of brisket at reasonable prices...looks like the smokers going to be fired up this weekend!

That's funny - I was just talking about barbecuing something this weekend and I thought "Brisket".  I've done pork shoulders (or Boston Butt if you prefer) and chicken and turkey, but haven't done brisket yet.   I'll have to check the local <sigh> Walmart for both the Fiesta pack and a nice brisket.
