Just sharing an old penny arcade pic I ran across on the internet today, guessing early 40's. Good times...

That's my kinda picture. I have a few old games and often think about what the world was like when they were brand new.

I find it interesting that owners could make a profit at a penny a game given the cost of the machines.
Especially in comparing to today's dollars where if you can find an arcade, many of the games are $2 a play.

Mos of the arcade owners didn't own the machines. The money made was in the food and soft drinks.

One of my favorites is the "U.S. Marshall" type shooting gallery. (Center right) Claw machine was always like throwing your change in the gutter. Another classic is the bowling machine. I remember the puck type.

Bought a old Northwestern Gumball machine from the original vendor years back... He had a route from Springfield, MO up to Kansas City, MO that's how he made his living off these old gumball machine.. He said he had tons of these machines at every gas station, store, etc.... He still had several in his garage mostly 50s OAKS and Toppers... the good stuff lined his living room... He had books and knew what he had...wish I would have bought the Hawkeye he had, was NOS! Said he and his wife would drive the route with canvas bags empty the change and refill the machines... WOW what a life... Seemed to love it.

Funny you mentioned Springfield Mo, that is where this photo was allegedly taken. I think I know where your vendor is getting his stash
