Thanks Dave! I'm not sure what "metal plates" you are referring to...
Additionally, the "National" script logo is broken so if anyone has a lead to locate one of these as well, it is greatly appreciated ! ! !

Jim, That bezel is hard to find without the top broken out of it. The spring on the coin return lever was too strong in those machine--or the metal in the bezel was too weak. Either way, on almost all of the National's that I have every seen, the top of that bezel is broken out. I have been looking for one for my seven pull for a long time so if you find two that are not broken, let me know! I might have the script logo though. Do you know how long that one should be roughly? Tim

Leonard is awesome. He's helped me plenty of times too. From making me a locking mechanism for Stoner gum machine to all the steps in buying, picking up, and delivering a Bally Skill Roll for me, and all the things in between. He's a very unselfish person. I vote that today is national Leonard day. I'm arranging a parade in Ohio as speak. Seriously, thanks Leonard for everything, you are one of a kind. You are like family to me. O.K. back to Jims post. Did anyone ever find a National cigarette machine with the match dispenser on the left side? I saw one once in an auction for three scrap machines years ago. Mine doesn't have one and I always thought that it would be cool to dispense the penny match book. If so, send me a picture.

I have/had three National's two have what Tim has and one has the other style that costs you a penny for a box. Mine still had the original matches inside.

Hi Larry
The restored one I have in my little room doesn't have one fitted. I have another in storage in the garden.
I'll try and get to it tomorrow and take some pictures.

I can't help out on the national machine but since it's National Leonard day I have to say he is truly a great guy and will help out when he can. That being said I have only had great dealings with all the members here that I had an oppurtunity to meet or make a deal with.

Hey Leonard, I will take you up on your generosity and PM you tomorrow and discuss details... Larry, The machine I'm working on functions just as Tim stated; during the vend cycle, a pack of matches is dispensed from one of three columns in the back. As far the match vendor along the left side, I have an early National that has this; deposit a penny and pull the lever/knob for delivery. Do you want photos of the penny vend matches column...? There's really not much to it, but let me know so the next time I go to storage, I can get a few photos of the inside. In the photo below, the two outside machines have penny match dispensers...

Jim it seems that the machine I saw, ten years ago, had to be an older version like the two that you have displayed on the ends. I won't need a picture or need to use my imagination to see this, since my machine is different. Thanks Dave and Jim for the offers of the pictures.
I guess I have the newer more common style machine, like the pink and Maroon one in your picture. I thought that since my machine had the deposit a penny for a book of matches coin plate on the left side that it should have a rejector, coin mech, vending mechanism, and coin catcher. I wonder why they continued to install the deposit one penny plates on the left side if they went away from the whole mechanism design?
By the way do you collect these machines? You do have a large amount of these.

If anyone turns up a quarter bezel that is not broken, i could use one for my National.
Turns out I do not have an extra name badge.

Larry
After nearly an hour of clearing a path to the nine pull I have in the shed I opened the front up to find that the match unit isn't inside. It must have been in the one that I sold.
I can't remember much about it really. It was a separate stand alone unit. Can't even work out how the matches were dispensed now. I'm thinking automatically because I don't recall a lever.
I only have one picture of the insides of that machine which I have attached. It doesn't help much but you can see the separate coin slot on the right side of the picture.
Sorry... Not much use to you. Hopefully Jim will come up trumps.
Dave
