I have 2 Vendo 81s  I have a D and a B.  I have a couple of questions before I start top restore the D

Can I use the cabinate from the B for the D restoration?  I know I can't use the front door but it looks like the carbonates are identical.  I have better louvers on the B than I do on the D (rust).  Also, someone removed the vending mechanism on the bottle rack.  Can I use square top parts (cheaper and I have many in  the warehouse) for the vending mech or do I need original 81 parts to complet the project?

Yes cabinets are interchangeable, the only difference is the louvers.

It's really a crime to butcher one 81 for the sake of another.  darn  A Vendo 80 has the same cabinet as the B.

If the actuator cup and the cam that operates it are present on your bottle stack, the rest of the parts are the same as ST's.

Brian, what are your plans for the "D" cabinet you are not using ? I might be interested in buying it from you or trading for something if you're interested ?

Thanks,

Do you know where I can get the actuator cup and bottle stack cam?

Please let me know.  I might as well do them both at the same time. The D cabinate is not too bad.

That will get you part of the way there, but there is a different part that actuates the cam from a Square top 81 bottle stack as they are electric (generally)..

pull it out and compare you'll see what I mean..

however I do think there is a guy who makes that part too.. Rod knows him.. I forget his name..

i just pulled the parts off of a squaretop 56.  once i removed the solenoid i noticed the stack parts looked very similar.  the locks slide, shoulder screws, and springs looked identical.

i will post a picture later today.

Would a Vendo 39 cabinet work?.  Of course it would only be the shell because the liners would be different

No a vendo 39 cabinet wouldn't work as the back of the 81 cabinet has the extra 3 inches, the louvers on the V39 third generation are however the same and can be cut out and welded in if it's only the louvers that are rusted out  !

I think the hard part to come up with on converting back to a manual stack is Part #29 on your exploded view.  I haven't seen that piece available anywhere.

Here is a closeup of #29.

I remember copying one a long time ago, but it would have been a lot easier if I had access to the right fabrication equipment.

I got this one from Joey, but would loan it out if anyone wants to have a batch made.

I believe that part is being made.. I found that out in Chicago this year , there is a guy (cant remember his name) but Rod knows him who has made this part..
pretty sure on this, but maybe I'm wrong..

Rod could chime in if he wants to share this info , or maybe he'll be offering it soon ?
