Re-Purposed Cigarette Machine

I was traveling in LA last week & found this re-purposed cigarette machine in a hotel lobby; it now vends small pieces of art. I had to explain to my teenagers what the machine was, and how common they were when I was growing up. I did some research and found a related website: www.artomat.org

I can't remember if there was a post on these at some point here before, or if someone in m family had sent me a link to them.  I actually was talking with the seller of a cigarette machine I posted a couple weeks ago and he's part of the company.  Pretty cool idea to do something with those machines, I always remember them from the big pizza restaurants that were in my hometown.

They just put two in at the locale University. 
$5.00 dollars. Artist gets half. Gonna be pretty slap dash "Art" for 5 bucks.
Showed it to Linda. She thought $10.00 75/25 split worth considering.
Takes a lot of material cost and time to create anything worth buying.

Saving any and all vending machines is good.
Have yet to see a good enough picture of how a bill validator is wired in and attached to these coin mech machines.

Just an FYI only

Appears to be a National 222 Cigarette.  The selling price (New) was $395.00
F.O.B St Louis. The little vending company I worked for used them for a number
of years, filled a number of them.

Just found a 16 Jan 66 National Vendors Equipment price list. 

We had a couple of them that had side mounted bill acceptors.
I think still used the original sidewall.  The biller acceptor just had to
trip a lever on the sidewall.

We also used this company to supply OTC/Travel stuff for vend/sale
in 2-3 motels.  Came in little boxes the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Better be a change machine handy,  I don't think those came with a bill changer option.  Not many people walking around with $5 in quarters handy.

I thinkk you pay $5.00 to the cashier, and receive tokens to make your  selection. At least that is how it was explained to me

I saw a machine like that in the back of a hotel still in use but did not look at how payment was made. I was working on a pipe in the laundry and I guess the lobby would tell people where it was at because I did see people stepping thru the door to use it.
