Anybody have any cans of R 12 for sale?
I may have a RT 56 that needs to be recharged. Is there an alternative?

Freeze 12 work nicely as a drop in for the amateur refrigeration hobbyist. just make sure you get the special valve adapter that screws onto the top of the Freeze12 can ( it looks like the one for R134a, but it's a different thread) but if it needs a recharge, did you find & fix the leak? it's pointless to drop in any R-whatever if it's just going to be pissed right back out again. It also gets to be expensive.

I actually just want to have some on hand. I'm taking a compressor over to a friend locally that is a refrigeration technician. He asked if I had any R-12 in the event there was a leak we could recharge it.
I will let him know of the alternative that you have listed.
I have tested the following: ( Both work)
Evap Fan
Condensor Fan
Ordered a new 3 to 1 start relay, and a wiring harness.
Should I consider ordering any other parts from FunT..that would be good to have on hand??
Tapping Aids, Drier Hose / with schrader valve??
Where do leaks usually come from? ( No nothing about refrigeration so go easy)

I think I was looking for something more specific....  :  If there are other components that are prone to having issues..I would like to take care of them the first time. I need to learn more about the refrigeration side of things...I have been avoiding it for too long!! |

Stick to your friend like glue when he has your system for repair. He should be able to explain possible areas prone to leaking by showing them to you and how to repair any problems you might have. A true understanding of the refrigeration system requires a hands on approach with proper guidance IMO. As far as some of the parts listed ask your friend if he needs you to get them he is the one to let you know best what he needs to do the job. |

First, UPS and FedEx can't fine you. I wouldn't ship it thru the USPS. I would be more worried about selling it to someone without a license after offering on a public forum. Getting a fine for that is more likely!

These were my exact words earlier this year. So, I started out watching a few You Tube videos explaining the principles, then I stumbled on this website: http://epatest.com/ although I know there are a few others similar. Within 2 weeks I not only learned the basics but got my EPA 608 certification to legally purchase and dispose of refrigerants. Total cost was about $25.00, everything is done on-line, material is easy to understand, plenty of practice questions and open book exams. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who likes to work on their own machines. (it's also simply a feather in the cap for us old guys)  |

I bough some r12 on ebay. and they shipped it directly to me.. I just had to sign a form saying I was not installing it myself and that I was having an expert do it..most sellers of r12 have this form on their auction to download.

Passed. Core Section 25 /25 Type 1: 21/25 I would recommend downloading the Study Guide Software. I called my local distributor they tried to get me to buy their program it was only $139.99  I paid $24.95. I found some helpful videos on YouTube.

Question
If its legal to sell with an I promise note, then if a 19 year old walks into a store and signs a promise not to drink the beer, then why can't they buy it for someone else? Same thing, right?
Same with ammo, cigarettes, guns...
Why is there an EPA compliance class needed at all and why doesn't everyplace just sell to everyone if promising not to use the product is good enough?

It's just a tool the feds can use to bust people. We can drive a car with a borrowed drivers license too, just don't get caught. The course describes how harmful the R-12 and other refrigerants are if discharged into the atmosphere. Considering how many air conditioners and refrigeration units are existing in todays world, it's probably a good thing we have a watchdog group. But the guys that do this as a hobby and discharge a can of R-12 into the ozone, won't end the world tomorrow, although there is a $10,000 fine for doing just that..... licensed or not. Keep in mind this course does not cover troubleshooting compressor components or soldering techniques, but Youtube is helpful there. A vacuum pump is available from Harbor Freight Tool for a little over $100 and the rest of the hand tools and guages needed cost me about another $100. I still call my professional refrigeration guy for the tough jobs, but it's nice to be able to do the simple jobs myself. |

Were the test gauges also at Harbor Freight? How much was the recovery cylinder? I called my local HVAC company today about my house and somehow he started talking refrigeration. I told him I collected soda machines. He said he had a round top Coca Cola and some parts on it. He converted into a gun case.  Also said he knew where one was locally...waiting for pics......
