Just saw this on Ebay, a Dads rootbeer embossed 55 slider. It seems a little odd that the embossed Dads logo is screwed on the front of the machine. Is this how Dads did their machines? And is it worth $2795.00?  I still can't paste a link yet but I did include a pic.

NO they were not signs screwed onto the machine, they were embossed  ( only "Ribbon" & DAD'S were embossed, the "Rootbeer" was silk screened (painted) this looks like a tin Tacker sign was attached to the front of the slider...looks real , but buyer beware. or at least careful  biggrin

I wonder what is on the embossed panel behind the Dad's tack on.  It could be interesting but not 2800.00 interesting...

The "Dad's" is not a tack on.  To me it looks like someone tacked a sign over the "Dad's" embossing and then painted the cooler orange.  Since that time the tin tacker sign has been removed to expose the embossing.  At least that is what it looks like to me.  Either way, the cooler in complete condition is not worth anywhere near the asking price.  It is a rare slider but maybe more like $1,000 to $1,200?

The outside border above the tin Dads sign looks like the boarder on a 7up embossed slider.  I think this tin sign is simply covering up the embossment of a 7 up cooler.  Why would someone go to the effort covering up another nicer Dads logo below it with a cheesy tin Dads sign?

Dads being the most rare embossed Slider 55. I would think the box alone would fair a price to the right buyer been 400-60
4$
Add the rack, coin box, and coin mechanism at another 450.  I with Tim; 1,000-1,200 would be fair.

I've only seen the Dad's slider in the Jeff Walters book.  I think JohnieG summed it up accurately.

No I agree with Tim and Jonnnie G,,, the eyes play tricks.. i believe it to be authentic, the whole embossing is square with the more rectangular Debossing and then again embossing of the DADS lettering...

someone did tack over a sign that was rectangular in shape and then the cooler was painted orange... when that tacker sign was removed it creates and illusion that the Dads is tacked on ... I say its' 100% original... and due to the rarity of it... I say it is a 1000-1200 box..

I was trying to find a photo online of a Dads slider.. but can't ... anyone got one to compare?

Since he made the deal so fast, it would be safe to assume he got real close to his asking price, with or without the slider parts.           $2000 to $2500

I have never seen a Dad's slider on eBay or in person. I don't think $2k is out of line for such a rare machine. I am sure he got close to his asking price.

The embossing is real and was covered up with a sign. After magnifying the pic it showed screw holes where the old sign was. Still don't think it was worth $2700.00. It would be a nice one to have but not at that price.

We need to keep in mind that there are many collectors out there that are not on this board. Could be someone who has the entire 55 Slider lineup and was been waiting for years just for this machine to come up and was going to but it at any price.

I agree, it would be interesting to watch it go through the regular e-bay bidding system , who knows how many people may have needed that last Ideal brand and how much they would have been willing to pay..
I have a friend who is trying for the entire set of embossed 55's , he didn't jump quick enough on this one though.

With that being said, if someone has all 11 or 12 and just needs the Dad's to complete the collection then yes he will defiantly over pay to get it and not blink twice about it.

A collection would have to include the generic - not embossed, but a different slider nonetheless. A DP slider maybe?

Regardless of value which ia your fav? I've always liked the Hires. Most of the sliders logos are just script logos and not very exciting. The Hires has some color and when restored looks great. I would go 1. Hires, 2. Orange Crush, 3. Coca Cola.

That's a really nice original slider but you can't call it a Dads.
We would call it a generic cooler with a Dads decal on it.

I got a call from a guy named Vince in Colorado yesterday.  Vince is a restorer who recently bought 6 slider coin mechs, 3 cap catchers and 3 racks from me.

Vince bought the Dad's slider for $2200.  He also just bought an embossed Orange Crush slider in Wisconsin (not sure what he paid for the OC).  He will restore both and sell them.

I have his contact information if anyone is dying to own either of these collectable machines once they get restored.

He paid $2200 for the OC 55 on ebay with the bad paint and lettering.

(Leonard...don't read this, as I still want your OC 55!).  They are really only going for $300-400.

I'll start the list:  Others can chime in to finish the list.

1. Dad's
2. Coca Cola
3. Orange Crush
4. Hires
5. Nesbitt's
6. Birely's
7. Canada Dry (2 versions...one with crown de-bossed, other without crown de-bossed).
8. Pepsi (2 versions...single dot, double dot).
9. Barq's
10. 7-Up
11. Royal Crown
12. Squirt

I just had someone offer me a Tru Aid embossed 55 which is talked about, but not pictured, in the 3 edition of the classic soda machines 3rd edition book. So, add another one to the list as rare as the dad's.
