What is the best way to clean up or totally restore my drum?  I was going to have it powder coated but that may be too much work.  Any ideas of how to make to look pretty?

I've had great success in getting it powder coated... very easy to do..

I spray it down with degreaser, hose it down and then the powder coater, bead blasts it, and powders it... it's aluminum so they doe something different to it he said to prep the aluminum...

or if you really want a lot of work, since it's aluminum you could work on polishing it with a buffer or by hand... would look great but LOTS of work..

Maybe i will polish the outside.  I prefer the polished look over the powder coating.


ps What is the easiest way to remove the drum?

What is the best way to remove the "C" clip from the drum?  I was going to attack it with a flat head screwdriver but Im not sure that is the best way.

That is what I have used....hold one end stable and push up on the other with the flat head, then pry it off.
The back of the drum is steel - isn't it!

You could also get an inexpensive c clip remover pliers the make the job easy and dont bend it out of shape you can get them at an auto parts store. Plus you get to add a tool to your arsenal

I used a silver type of powdercoating.  It has a good shine to it.  What about zinc plating??

I would take the backing plate off, have it sandblasted and powder coated an aluminum color. Be sure to note exactly where the counter weight is in relation to the bottle hole number so it gets put back together properly!
Most zinc-platers also provide anodizing services which may be cheaper than powder coating the drum...

Does the powder coating have any effect on the numbering imprinted on the front reel for the bottle holes.  I would assume not, but I have a drum in similar condition and am pondering the best solution as well.

The last two I've had powdered turned out great... I used a Silver Sparkle colored powder and it comes out great..

I have had no issues of it "filling in" the numbers .. nice and readable..
