There is a big discussion on it on another site (bottle site) on whether this was ever produced.. One guy on there goes on and on about it... but has never found any proof...
there is a soda bottle label in one of Pertetti's soda books and a guy has a NOS bottle cap... No one has ever found a bottle or another cap... no one seems to be able
to find any history of a Popeye soda or bottle... maybe this was a prototype or idea that was presented and because of license of the character it failed?... All these little metal signs,
in my own personal opinion are fakes... the little cardboard diecuts that pop up from time to time, (same art and design of these little metal signs) again my own personal opinion are fakes.. the quality and size of signs scream fake (to me) but these continue to bring in a couple hundred dollars... Now if someone could find a bottle, ONE bottle with that label or art work or another type of sign in design or shape dated,  a magazine ad, anything... any proof that this did exist and was manufactured even for a short time I will then believe it was real... I think it was a idea that didn't make it past the prototype sadly.. cause I loved Popeye as a kid and it would be a killer to find a embossed Popeye Quikold! smile

I was leaning that way too Eric! But I was shocked at the bid price and it made me wonder.
I found it odd that the sign had a King Features Syndicate copyright with no other name on the sign. KFS produced the early cartoons, but they were not in the soda business! They weren't in the sign business! Who produced and bottled the soda? Wouldn't they want THEIR name on the sign?
I think fantasy as well.

They tried to market it in the early 50's but it was a failure because it smelled like Olive-Oyl  tounge

Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon!

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.
