I actually kind of like the idea, but sure looks like you would burn the heck out of your hand when you open it!

Maybe just a gun case would be better.

Pretty common conversion up in my neck of the woods... I run across one about every 8-10 machines i find...

I know my Grandfather used to give away lots of old machines back in the day to friends of his who wanted to make a smoker out of one....we had an old Vendo 81a up at the cabin that was used to smoke fish... it was long gone by the time I started realizing what it was , but remember it clearly..

Wouldn't the galvanized metal give off toxic and/or unpleasant fumes when heated up ?

I believe you would have to weld on or torch gavanized steel for it to give toxic fums off, but a good point I would certianly make shure before i cooked with it Oo

The door liner is plastic so it wouldn't last long.
Wouldn't that make the door handle pretty hot.  wow

So you put in a dime and pull a walleye out of the bottle stack.  I would guess the 81 would make a more popular smoker since it is not just a single flavor smoker and you can smoke up to 12 oz fish, not just the smaller 8 oz ones.

Thats great..

I dont' know how people used them, just know it happened quite a bit...  and again this was in the 60's .. don't think people paid much attention to what may or may not be toxic or "bad" for you?
