Is creating a fantasy machine really, really frowned upon? I'm just throwing this out for fun.
What if you had and extra generic slider? What would you turn it into? If it were me, I'd turn it into
a brand that is relatively unusual. It would have to be colorful. Maybe a regional flavor...or something not seen too often.
Green River, Cheer Up, YooHoo, Howel's, or a different flavor Crush. I think a purple machine for a grape flavor would look good. But then the yellow machines with the Black coin mech is great too.
I really, really like seeing photos of your machines. A row of different 81s, 63s or sliders look soooo cool.
BTW I realize that any fantasy machine would have to be for my personal collection only. My family wouldn't pass it off as real when I wasn't around anymore. I think!

I consider fantasy machines  a cool thing, as long as, like you said it wasn't meant to dupe a potential buyer.

Generic sliders were decaled by vendors all the time.. I've Seen Bubble Up, Cheer Up, O-So Grape
machines look great...
A few years back a guy took embossing from a Squirt slider and welded it into a Vendo 39 looked awesome
and for a Squirt collector how cool that would be to have...
I think a 56 rt in all Pepsi blue would be awesome... just cut the embossing from a 33 to fit...
I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you're up front with it if and when the time comes to sell...
To me it's like cutting up a classic car to make a hotrod.

Being from Maine, I still want a orange moxie machine filled with moxie. I thought that the Jacobs 26 would be perfect for that but it has the small bottle issue to make it work, but it would likely be an generic slider if it ever happens.

I've been told that a common fake... intended to deceive.... is the VMC 81 with the RC Cola welded in from another machine.

I had a customer called me last week looking for a Bubble-up slider.

      I told her I don't have one....never seen one...but I could make her one!

I saw a coke 81 turned into a vmc rc 81.  Guy said he was going to do it for himself and then ended up. Screwing a customer.

was there an RC Cooler that had the proper embossing with "Better taste calls for RC"? I've never seen one...but I want an RC machine bad enough that I wouldn't care if it was a fake -  as long as I was paying a lower price than the real RC81's go for, I would be okay with it...still prefer the original, but you can't have everything you want (at least I can't). And I love my OC 81...it's my favorite machine!

So if generic sliders were labeled with most any brand...how would you know if was a fantasy?
Petretti has hundreds of brands in his Soda Pop price guide. How can one know if you don't know about the actual
bottler yourself? Hmmm.

I agree with many others that as long as they are not made to decieve, have at it. I plan on creating an OC 81 out of a Coke 81D over the winter for myself... and I'll also be making an Ol Smoothie SS 700 Ice Chest as well.. neither existed but they will look great!
I think a Grapette 81 would be super cool.. or if A guy could find the Early Script Dr.Pepper Logo on an 81...

and Like Eric said earlier, there was a Squirt embossed 39 in Chicago a few years back, looked really cool...here is a pic of it..

I did this to a Vendo 23 just to add some color other than red and white in my shop.

When I think fantasy machine.. I think taking embossing from one item and using it to make something that was never actually in production.
I don't consider a decal on a generic a fantasy piece... That's what the generic (non-embossed) were for...
A lot of small mom 'n pop companies couldn't afford embossing a machine and/or didn't have the territory... It's amazing how many
soda brands there were... 100s... heck maybe thousands over the years..

I agree.  Have fun with it.  Sometimes we take ourselves a little too seriously.  Here is my Fantasy Dad's Rootbeer Vendo 56 square top.  It's sits outside vending beer (in cans) by the pool

Here is an Orange Crush machine made by Ray the Goose himself.
You wanted to see them lined-up Terry?  biggrin
Non embossed machines are always fair game for fantasy ideas and that's probably why generic 81's are commanding such high prices.

Wow, that SQUIRT looks AWESOME!!!

Why is it that just when I think I'm done with my collection, you mafia guys keep showing us something different that gets me thinking?! lol

Wise guys is what you all are  happydrinkers

Where did he get the embossing of the SQUIRT?  WOuld he not have taken a rare squirt machine simply to make that fantasy? ( i'm not familiar with squirt or sliders that much, as I assume he got it from one?)

Judging by the size of the squirt logo I'd have to say it was from a slider... maybe it was just too far gone so they cut it out?? who knows... but I am unaware of any other large squirt embossings?

Probably off a slider 85... off a 55 would be sad... In the Soda Pop book by Petretti, in the calendar section,
there is a calendar with an image of a girl sitting on a Quikold Standard with the Squirt logo... I would bet
it's a decal but how cool that embossing would be as it's the “splash” logo... that would be an awesome embossing.

My wifes maiden name is Hires and is related somehow to the Hires rootbeer family.  Did Hires ever have any embossed machines?  I hope to find a generic machine at some point and make it a Hires and surprise her with it.

I have seen a few Ideal 80's done in Hires.  Not embossed but still a cool looking machine.

There is this Hires door push that I was looking at (his reserve is 200, a bit high, but I bet he would come down if no one reaches it)
