It will be interesting to see what this sells for. I know a former Coca Cola employee who has one of these. Tim

What made the 102 so controversial was that in the South, some of the machines had dedicated signs in front "for whites only" or "for blacks only".
Can anyone confirm this as true? I have only seen pictures.

I have only seen that in the photos that Glen had posted a few years ago from a collector who has an orignal one? I would think it may have been produced to sit on a gas island or something where a double vend would be handy,, can't really seeing a Company like Coca-Cola getting caugh up in the discrimination stuff,, but then again they are based in Atlanta? not sure.. but unique machine for sure..

I should weld 2 51's together and do a nice paint job! lol All kidding aside, I SO would love to have this machine, as my 51 is one of my fav. machines, just cause of the height, the vivid red, the embossing etc....

My understanding of the 102 design was that is was set up so that the machine could be placed on the gas pump island next to the pumps and soda would be accessible from either side of the island. That makes a lot more sense to me than the Black/White explanation. Although, it would not surprise me that if this machine was placed in certain parts of the country back in the day that it could have had a side for "white" and a side for "colored" as it would have been referred to then. Regardless, it is a very unique machine. Tim

Back then, the machines weren't racist, just the people who used them as such. the Cavalier C102 was designed as described for dual sided access on a gasoline isle or a double lunch-line. Any moron can tack on any sign they want from "whites-only" / "blacks-only" or hey, you could claim it was Hitlers personal Coke machine & tack up a swastika & a "no Jews" sign while you going down that road ( gutter) of thought. Geez! Anyway, in any case, it's a rare machine indeed. but I'm sure RestoRick can whip one up from a pair LaCrosse LLC90's in a jiffy.

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

I'd assume that a collector of his Status, and I mean that he appears that he has been doing this for quite some time and obviously has not problem investing in his collection, would have authentic machines... I'd assume and again just assuming he has had these for quite some time... would assume they would be real...
now if it was a guy with a single machine in a garage.. yeah I'd ask immediatley... so it's a matter of judgment too..
have fun Jim, I'm sure it'll be a fun visit with the guy.
