Hey all,
I'm almost done with the VF90, but the door liner was broken at some point over the years, see the photo for reference. I have the missing piece, but I haven't had any luck reattaching, I tried both JB Weld and plastic epoxy, and neither did the job. Would fiberglass on the back side do the job, or is there another method that I should try on it?

Harbor freight tools has a plastic "welding" kit that can fix most plastic cracks & breaks like this, it's basically a "hot-glue" gun that has plastic "braising rods" & runs like a precision heat gun, it's a MIG welder for plastic & we all need an excuse to buy a new tool!

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

81 door liners are reproduced and pretty inexpensive. I wouldn't try to repair one. The cost / time / benefit is just not worth it.

I think any automotive parts place sells the fiberglass kits. Basically its a mesh sheet then you apply some type of epoxy/glue over it. It will harden. Not sure how flat you can get it, but after all that work, buying one might be the best option. I've repaired my dash that way in my car.

Your 81 door liner is also cracked around almost every screw hole around the perimiter so if you ever decide to replace the door gasket the liner will not re-install. Replacements are available for the 81 but not the 90. But it's also a harder material so doesn't have the screwhole problem and fixing it is the only solution.

Well, after a long time trying to get it all figured out, I ended up fiberglassing the door liner on the backside around all the cracks and bad screw holes, and it worked pretty well. I gave it a good sanding and put on a coat of satin black plastic paint, and I'm happy with the results. You can barely tell it was broken in the first place. The real test will be to see how the paint holds up over time with the condensation/cold air.
