I need to stock a machine that I recently purchased, and I was curious, where do you buy your drinks, and how much do they cost you? And does anyone have a machine that supports modern 20oz bottles, and if you do, what machine is it?

Depends where you live, and what machine you have ( which you still haven't told us from your last post '<img'> )      In my case I can get 12oz. glass bottles from several store in the Saginaw Mi. area, Coke, Diet Coke, Squirt, Sprite, 7up, Pepsi, Fresca. And at my local grocery stores stocks 8oz. Dr. Pepper, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, as well as 12 oz. Orange,Grape & strawberry Crush. Dads root beer, etc.

The Big (fat) 20 oz. bottles won't fit in the old Glass door vendors,( they don't fit through the bottle gate opening) but will fit in "slider" machines ( hanging down from the neck) .

Now cost, 6 pack of 8oz. glass runs $4.95 @ Kroger/FarmerJacks, Sams Club has a case (24) of 8oz.Cokes for $9.95, can't beat that! the larger 12oz. Glass long necks varies, so just check around.

Johnie where in sag do you get the 12 oz ones? I havent looked at Sams for them either are they always stocked? I know all of the glass ones are bottled in mexico and the trucked here( I guess the mexicans dont do cans).......And frankly I dont like cans I hate them in fact after the 80's it went down hill. Currently I bought a hugeeeeeeeee lot of bottles on Ebay about a year ago 124 for I believe 20 bucks so I just have been refilling them via my breakmate machine But I want the 12 oz ones too. '<img'>

I am buying bottles from various different places.  Right now my machine is stocked with 12 oz Dr Pepper and A&W root beer which I located in Clinton and also Elk City, Oklahoma the last time I was out cruising Route 66 (they also had diet Dr Pepper and 7UP.

I am able to buy 8 oz bottle of orange (and other flavored) Crush at my local WalMart and I can buy 16oz Coke and Orange Fanta (mexican imported) at an Albertsons grocery store (this is in Utah).

I have also in the past bought 8oz bottle of Dr Pepper made with real sugar from the following web site:
http://www.drpep.com/
The only problem with ordering them through the mail is the shipping can run the cost of pretty quick.

Also, if you need an unlimited supply of most any brand, you can shop here:
http://www.popsoda.com/ind.html

If anyone has any other suggstions where I might be able to by bottle close by (Utah), I'd like to know.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately my local sams doesn't carry any soft drinks in glass bottles.  They do carry a few brands of soda in the modern 16.9 ounce plastic bottles and they fit just fine in a cavalier 72.  I need to check with someone at sams to see if they can order the cases of 8oz cokes for me.  $4.95 for a six pack at krogers get's expensive fast.  I do stock a lot of IBC sodas and beer works well too.  For Dr Pepper you can't beat the real thing.  I collect refillable 6.5 and 10oz Dr Pepper bottles and take them to the Dr Pepper bottling plant in Dublin Texas where they will still refill your bottles with original recipie Dr Pepper.  It's made there with cane sugar the way it was intended to be made.  I promise you, if you ever have the chance to try a Dublin Dr Pepper it will ruin your taste for the new stuff made with corn syrup.
PS - I'm currently buying 6.5 ounce Dr Pepper bottles in bulk if anyone has a case or two to sell.

I can get the 8 oz. Coke at one store by me for about $4.40 a six pack.  The only other glass bottled pop is IBC, Stewart's and Goose Island (they don't make just beer).  I just bought my machine from a guy who also owns Retro Soda http://www.retrosoda.com/.
johnieG- what is it about Michigan and the 8 oz. bottles?  Whenever I'm on vacation (I live in NW Indiana) I see a large variety of snack shops/tourist traps selling the bottles on ice but I never seem to see them at a grocery store. You also have to pay 10 cents each for deposit, right?

Yep, there's a 10-cent deposit on all carbonated beverages in Michigan, I didn't quite follow you when you asked about whats up with the 8oz. bottles, did you mean the lack of them in Michigan grocery stores?  if so it's a matter of $$$
they don't want to deal with the hassle of the returns on the emptys, you see, the recycling machines for the returned plastic bottles will crush them after they're scanned & a credit is issued for each return, but with the glass bottles they just fall into the the bin, & of course some breakage will happen....yada-yada-yada. One the bright side Coke still makes the 8oz. Cokes, Diet Coke, & Sprite, Dr Pepper is available, IBC rootbeer of course, I can get Dad's rootbeer out of Chicago in 12oz. glass, (from my Guy in Saginaw) as well as 12oz. Glass bottle of 7up, Sprite Pepsi, import Orange Crush (sweeter, made with cane sugar for Mexico) Squirt in the old fasion twisted side bottle, etc... so theyr'e out there you just have to dig around a little, like I mentioned earlier, in Saginaw, there are several Mexican Grocery stores on & around Michigan ave & Gratiot ave. that have glass bottled Pop (soda) Oh! and Faygo (Detroit) has their Redpop (strawberry soda) & Grape & Rock-n-Rye ( Cream cola) Orange, & lot's of other flavors all in glass ( and plastic too) they are more than happy to load you up right out of their warehouse/ bottling plant down on Gratiot ave in Detroit, they still had some of the little 8oz. Classic glass bottles ( their "collectors" series) of Redpop,Grape,Orange,Kiwi-Strawberry.

One 8 oz bottle of Coke cost us 65 cents, but they will sell a full 2 liter plastic bottle of the same product for 25 cents more.

I know what you mean.  I think next time I'm passing through Kokomo, IN I may stop in a few stores (about an hour and a half from me).  One poster said that the 8 oz. Cokes are around $2.50 a six pack.  That sure beats the $4.38 a six pack here!

I understand the frustration.  The local Sam's and Costco stopped carrying the cases of 8oz cokes and Kroger wants 3.99 a six pack '<img'> .  I have tried to get a couple of people I know who work at coke to get me a "inside" contact to buy some, but no luck as of yet

Sometimes a good place to look is the smaller, more ethnic groceries.  I like to check out the hispanic groceries.  I have found that they usually carry glass bottles of standards like Coke, Sprite, Pepsi, 7UP...We also have a lager supermarket called Global Food which carries sodas in glass.

I stopped into a grocery the other day that I had not been to before.  They had an isle of glass bottles, mostly Mexican or Hispanic brands.  I picked up a 12 oz Country Club Raspberry just to try for .79 (bottled in Brooklyn NY).  They had 12oz Coke, Pepsi, Sprite and Squirt for .99 a bottle.  Orange, Grape and Strawberry Crush, but I can sometimes get those at Wal-Mart for 2.50 a six pack.  There were others I didn't recognize, but some neat looking ones.  A case of the Country Club was around $20 with tax.  I guess that is pretty average.

In my area you can get all of the Frostie flaors, IBC, Orange, strawberry, and grape Crush. Barq's rootbeer in 12oz and 8oz bottles. Coke in 8oz bottles, Diet coke in 8oz bottles, Dr. Pepper in 8oz Bottles. Then a store about 30 miles away sells Mexican 12oz and 16oz returnable sodas. Coke, Fanta, Orange Crush, Squirt, 7UP, Sprite, Pepsi and then some odd Mexican flavors. I have seen Mello Yello and Bubble Up in glass bottles before as well.

Hi guys. I know... me again. ':O' '<img'>

Anyway, I have a question about getting bottled Coke products from Mexican groceries in the U.S.A. (Supermercados) that were bottled in Mexico.

Please know that I don't mean this in a negative, racial way at all, heck, I even have relatives that live there. But since Mexico has FAR fewer government regulations than the United States, do you think we have anything at all to worry about in getting Coke prods. from there? Any food safety or ingredients issues we should worry about? I'm not being paranoid, just trying to be very safe.

Please share your views on this.

Thanks so much,

I've been buying the Mexi coke and Pepsi for several years and I do not have a third eye growing outta my forehead yet.  The water is filtered so you do not have to worry about that,  plus it is made with sugar instead of high-fructose corn suryp.  Sugar is much better for you then that nasty stuff.

With so many farms and orchards north of me, there are Hispanic party stores where I can purchase 12 oz coke and Pepsi products.
Not only did they have a label added from the FDA it was approved for sale in the US, I find it even tastes better since the pop is made with sugar, as opposed to corn syrup.

So I guess it is safe to drink '<img'>

Kilroy I was asking you. Yes with you saying pop I knew you were somewhere close. When I moved to Florida 4 years ago everyone gave me a hard time about the whole pop thing. As a young man I can say that I have never had (or don't remember) ever having a Coke made with sugar. maybe I will buy a machine close to you and have to buy a few cases.

Anyway, I guess I'm just nervous about lead, etc., since just last month, big news stories came out about major lead found in some children's Mexican candy imported to Mexican groceries in the U.S. (yes, that's right, lead in candy!) and also lead as the majority of the metal in children's, teen's and costume jewelry made in Mexico and sold in tons of stores around the U.S. including gumball machines, Target, Claire's, etc.

Kids got brain damage from the candy and from sucking on or even handling the jewelry.

Josh,  You should be able to find mexi coke and pepsi in Ohio.  If I recall correctly your near Cleveland right.  Should be plenty of places that stock the Mexi cola's.  Most of the younger people I've given it too, do not see what the big deal is, but to those of us who grew up on the sugar sweetened pop it's a big difference.

Josh, In Fairfeild there is this palce called Jungle Jim's.  It's a international food store that has everything and is a fun place to go.  They have an aisle called american pop which is a full asile of glass soda's.  Cheerwine, vernor's, moxie, belnheim's, and many other's.  Also each international food aisle will have pop from the respective region.  Try some guarana pop from Brazil or some thumbs up from india.  I make the drive a couple times a year (from Detroit) so I can fill my machines up with Glass bottled Mountain Dew and Cheerwine.

I  checked out the Jungle Jim's website.  Looks like a cool store.  I am originally from Ohio and grew up saying pop, but since I have been in VA, have been converted to saying soda (somewhat converted, I slip now and then and catch the jokes). I can't get any glass bottles other than IBC in the "regular" stores, but can take my pick from a whole isle of glass soda-pops (compromise) at the Hispanic supermarkets.

Just noticed in the local Bev More (beer wine store) they had a bunch of bottled soda/pop. Around 8 flavors of Faygo and misc. brands. Diet Coke and others. Might be worth a peek see if one is close.

I found Boylan soda and Franks in the local World Market, but they cost $3.99 for a 4 pack.  That is what stinks is that it is so $$ for some of the bottles.  I think a case of most bottles at the Hispanic grocery costs just under $1 a bottle.

I stocked up at sams too. They have IBC for $8.00 a case, little cokes for $10 (no diet, I wish they had this and sprite), and all three flavors of Crush (orange, grape and strawberry) for $8.65 a case! Jungle Jims is about 5 miles from me and it is nice to get Mexican coke and pepsi and Longneck Dews . Great store!! They have all the Boylans for .99 a bottle. Also Sprecher's , Frostie, and just about every internet based bottled pop available (cheerwine, sundrop, cane sugar Dr Pepper). Cane sugar pop is SO much better!':p'

8oz, thanks to better glass technology, is the same size of the 6 oz bottles of old, and work nicely in older machines

And peronally, I prefer a cold glass bottle over a cold plastic bottle anyday...

I rarely ever see the 8oz Cokes.  We have Sam's, Costco, and BJ's wholesale. I know BJ's doesn't carry any glass bottles, and last my neighbor checked, Costco didn't have any.  I will have her recheck and I will check Sams.  Those are good prices for a case.  WalMart used to carry Crush, but not in the last year.  IBC there is about $2.50 a 6pk.

Hi Billtown,
Welcome to the forums.
You would find the most success reposting that in the "Restorations" forum or "Post 60's" forum, rather than a thread about bottles.

Not a problem Yes they are 8 oz and to further explaine they can get the 8 oz in the 6 oz size because the glass is a lot thinner. I ahve only seen Diet and Reg coke at Sams never pepsi or sprite. there is always a few palletts of them. Personally I have never bought any because I just refill My own from another fountain machine and cap them myself. Its Not that time consuming in a hr you can do around 80 or so. I use old bottles that I bought where else On ebay about 2 years ago. I got 90+ of them( Some still full) for I believe 20 bucks............ the still full ones I wish I could figure out the age and if they are old enough to be made with sugar, perhaps take a swig  ':p'    they still have carbonation and I have some Bottles from 89 in the cardbard case that are still carbonated..........
