I am a newbie and am restoring my first machine which is a Vendo 56 Square top.  I am currently working on the coin mechanism and can see that my 25 Cent C.R.E.M. is fried (coil is actually burnt).  Does anyone know where I can get a replacement.

I think you can just remove it. You don't really need it for home use.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.   I am still trying to understand it's purpose.  For example if I want to set the price at ten cents and drop in a quarter does the 25 cent CREM come into play (again I apologize if this is novice question).

The Quarter CREM (Coin Return Electromagnet) blocks quarters from being accepted into the mech if there is no change to give the customer.

Thank you for the clarification as this makes sense.   Is there someone that carries these replacement CREM's to replace this one if I wanted to do that?

I have found brand new electromagnets that I think will work, but they were not cheap.....

Pity you didn't post last weekend  down , I just scrapped about 6 vari-prices... darn , but as mentioned above you don't need it unless you are going to use the machine for a retro-vending site to the public, in which case, you'd want to upgrade your coinmech anyway.  Cut the wires, cap them off & remove to old coils guts, & get on with enjoying you machine while you look for a replacement coinmech I say.

JohnieG - Oh man, I wish I would have caught you last week also.   If you run into anymore please let me know.
Collecture - Thanks for your help also.

This has been my first post of I think many to this discussion group and I am very impressed with the timely and informative responses.

I'm with johnnie here - it is not worth it for the home machine. When I redid the changer for  my WB-60, I took all of that out including the heater.
I fill the tube up with nickels and set a cup up with dimes and quarters in it. It vends on the dimes and the quarters returning three nickels change. Vends on two nickels too, which fill the tube back up!
Not only is it not necessary, but it constantly uses energy - when idle, the mech uses 0.1 amperes and approximately 8 Watts. These items are the main energy thieves.
