I know what I tell my wife about wanting or getting a new machine, but I want to hear from you all as to; WHAT DO YOU ALL SAY TO YOUR WIFE WHEN YOU WANT TO GET ANOTHER MACHINE?!?!? Sorry if there are any women collectors here, if so, your man is LUUUUCKKY!!! lol What I say is that each machine is my last for a LONG time, but then when one comes up, I say that "It's a machine that I cant pass on, as they hardly EVER come up for sale (thats what I told her about my want for a Vendo 39 last week lol) Then I say that these machines are not made anymore.... supply is drying up! She gets a few dresses, I get her jewelery for no reason, I bite my tounge on MANY things, and eventually Im at UHaul renting a trailer to go get my next machine lol Would like to hear from you all! As I might find a new reason!

Yep, about the same here, I get a machine, she gets a purse, or jeans, or jewelry...
Although, when fixing a machine for profit, its a lot harder for her to go out and buy that stuff. I always ask how much that purse is going to bring in when she fixes it up and sells it!

I just dont tell her any more. She has tried to set a limit with me, and I say ok what ever and by the end of the year I've gone over that limit by 2 or 3 times. Now if you were to ask her about that shoe collection she has, that fills ever closet in the house and there are 6 of closets and and 8 tubs of shoes( you know they need shoes for ever season) when I set a limit , I get Are you kinding me . So I just keep my mouth shut and move her shoes aside to get my shoes out of my closet and go out picking .

Great Topic,
Luckily she doesn't say too much about my collecting as it has awarded her some nice things, trips and ammenities around the house from time to time. Plus the biggest thing for me is I don't ever dip into the household budget... my play money is merely that.. when I make a few bucks it goes into my seperate account or in (my hiding place).. and I only use that money to by stuff...
The line "this is one sign, machine, cooler, I really wanted" has dried up years ago.

Mine just tells me that she loves me and that I deserve to treat myself daily. She refuses gifts and eats only bread and water just so I can buy more machines. I tell her no I don't need anymore machines....but she's so persuasive.....I just give in.

I'm lucky that my wife likes this stuff too... she'll be there at Chicago (sleeping in -NO WAY would she get up at 4:00am) I usually end up trading up or selling most the machines I have anyway... I have 4 (right now) I think are keepers. then there are my coolers that I love.... the machines would go before the coolers. And like John said selling/flipping some of this stuff has paid for other things around the house - like food and clothing

LArry..... I never laughed before reading a post (Other than stuff involving Rick Dale lol) but your post made me laugh!! great answers so far! And yes, I too keep a seperate "slush fund" I get from cash sales at work, that I "hoard" to myself (according to the wife) but even THAT gets me the ol "Oh, you can hoard $$ and yet we have bills to pay, gifts to buy etc etc BLAH BLAH BLAH.... The other day I asked her why is her haircut 200 bucks, and I go to Magic Cuts where I pay 12.50! (no responce, and I dont nag for one either as I know that will mean an argument lol)

You guys are cracking me up!!! My wife is unlike any of the typical wives, I must admit. she loves the Pepsi 56 ST she has, although I have three and a half machines in the garage at the moment, hoping to get rid of one soon. My wife does not shop for the usual shoes, jewelry, clothes or the like, so that makes it difficult to persuade in that regard. For me, what it really boils down to, is how many projects I currently have going, Coke machine or otherwise, the bills being paid, and how much it costs along with where it is. I'd say I'm pretty lucky in that she lets me get the things I want. I just have to be realistic in getting them and not get so far behind that I'll never get to them or do anything with them.

What a great question, This is the same as the Q from her "do i look fat in this dress?" guys that is a deffinate loss as theres no real good answer,This is a dilemina i've had for many years as i have collected Budweiser steins and clocks and other things as well as gumball machines (which are hidden)mostly, I tell her its an investment for our golden years since taxes go up and stocks go down but collectables only go up, I tell her that everytime she sees my coke machine and coolers in the garage. Try it but never answer the fat Q, and by the way its actually cheaper in the the long run to keep her.

Brian, Just out of curiosity, do you mind if I ask what you paid for that register? We have one we're about to put up for auction and was just curious what they're selling for these days. Thanks.

Could always have a machine delivered while she's not at home. When she returns, tell her you have absolutely no idea where it came from, that the mailman just dropped it off. Musta been a wrong address or something.
OR....
HEY HONEY!!!! I got you a big surprise! It'll hold all the beer you can drink!

Hi Ya Pat...
A bowling game is definately something I would really love. Only problem is it would have to sit in the living room, infront of the TV and sofa. Now I don't mind. I think it would enhance the decor but Mrs B wouldn't be very pleased.

Me: Sweety, come check this out <beckons toward computer> Her: <sigh> <eye roll> What? Me: I've been looking for one of these FOREVER, the price is cheap, cheap! Her: What's it worth? Me: At least 3 times that, this guy doesn't know what he has!!!! Her: Is it a good investment?? Me: Oh yeah! Totally! But, if I don't leave within the next 2 hours, somebody else will get it <big frown & sad face> Her: Are you sure? Can't you just wait a few days? Me: No, no, no! It'll be gone and WE will miss out on it! I know for a fact that if WE got it and put it on Ebay that it would sell for way more than WE'd have in it! Her: Really? That's the problem! You never sell anything!!! Go ahead and get it........ And so it goes!

Nice Brian, Wear them down, wear them down!!!!! I once told my wife I was buying it for her, thinking she wouldn't want it, and she was more than happy to have it....so she could resell it. Just bought a big item. Haven't told her yet. I know what she's gonna say, and oh well, who cares. By the way my anniversary is coming up, maybe I'll tell her then, but it wont be her present...it will be mine!!

I used to plan bringing my new finds into the house on a night when my wife would have to go out. My neighbor (accomplice) would come over and help me carry it down the stairs into the basement. The first 3-4 times, she would be a bit unhappy, but when she saw the kids playing the video games, I was off the hook. It became a joke for awhile, and now she is beat down enough that as long as it doesn't come from house money, its not usually an issue. She has been extremely patient with me lately though.. I have a Qbert machine that has been sitting in the dining room for about 6 months now waiting to get into the basement.
