Right now it works on one dime.  I believe it is dual dog and there is a screw in the rear hole (closest to machine) and no screw in the front hole (closest to coin door).  I assume it can be set to take either two nickels or a dime?  Does it just involve adjusting these screws to get it to take two dimes also?

A 10c (2N or 1D) mech has a single dog. you may have a 20c mech.
Post a pic of the mech - looking down on it! If you can remove the slug rejector (4" x 5" part with magnets) for the pics it would help. two spring steel clips hold the right side - gently push them out and pivot the rejector out.

You have a 15c mech and you have a nickel rejector missing parts and modified to accept dimes. The 5c on the side of the mech indicates it was originally a nickel mech. The owner modified the rejector from nickel to dime and cut out the "5c" and word "nickel" from the foil-cal.
You can set it for 5c vend, 10c (dime only) vend or 6c (1 nickel & 1 penny) vend or 15c vend with the correct rejector for the denomination you want.

If you want to do purely free vend, just get another 6-32 screw and put it in the open hole on the side of the mech.  That will pull both dogs back and the machine will free vend.

AWESOME looking machine!!  Great condition!  I am currently BEGGING my wife to allow me to go to the Chicago show to look for a 110.
I too would keep this machine as ALL original as well, not even putting on a repo decal
But thats just my opinion

It is not ALL original now as things have been altered and modified. It is a nickel rejector that has parts missing and/or altered so that dimes will work on it. Only half of the original decal is there and the other half was cut out. Right now, I would call it in "as found" condition, but it is no longer original by any means. Just my opinion.

Would you suggest getting the coin mech refurbished to operate as originally intended? As it's been altered, it wouldn't be considered original so would it be worth it to fix it?  I'm not looking to flip this machine, just keep it for myself or put it at my sister's restaurant.

Yes, the crank would turn without having to input a coin.  To rig the machine to allow you to pull out a bottle without using the crank, you would have to make some changes to the bottle stack.  There are pieces you would have to remove to keep the gates from locking once a bottle is removed.  Personally, part of the "cool" factor for me is cranking the handle.  I also keep a small basket of dimes on a machine so anyone who uses it gets the whole feel of the process.  You can always open the coin door and retreive the dimes when they have all been put in.
