I wouldn't think a generic 81 would be worth even what an embossed Coke was worth. Why did it go so high?

It looks like it's all there, but it will need a full restoration. checked out the bids, it looks like two people got caught in a bidding war

I was watching it. It got out of my range a few days ago. I don't see it being worth over $1500.00.

I don't get it either!! I mean, at that's the price a generic should sell for restored? Would you all not agree? At that price, it puts a Pepsi, 7up VMC 81 into the 6-7k range in the same shape (badly in need of a resto). At that price, it puts a RC cola at 30k in any condition! (10x what the generic went for) That's the way I look at it..... UNLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone wanted it at any cost (cheaper the better) to turn it into a fake RC cola machine, and sell it for 12k plus!!!! I can't see any other reason why someone would pay that kind of $$$ on a generic machine in that condition, without having other motives! Would anyone else agree with me on my points? Am I out of line with my thinking?

If they wanted to turn it into a RC they could have just bought a Coke 81 and save $2000.

Could be shill bidding , could be someone not realizing while "yes, he won a VMC RC 81, he didn't win a VMC RC 81...."

Wow if that's what a generic unrestored VMC 81 is going for then dang my semi restored VMC 81 7up is going on eBay, although it's my baby if that's what their going for a generic then I can only guess what mine would go for and that can pay for a lot of school. Is the market coming back and machines are going up?

WOW !! I was watching this one also. I thought maybe a high $1,700, but $3,500 that's nuts. It was missing the evaporater.

But that door wouldn't have the embossed area down below for the VMC logo sticker. Although, I suppose one could be welded in easily enough from a 33, etc.

It could also be someone that wants a DP81. It was originally a DP81 so someone that wants a restored DP81 and wants it to be correct may pay that much for it. Yes you can take any generic 81 and restore it in a DP theme but this one obviously shows green paint under the red and white Rc Cola paint. Some people are very strict on originality and wants a DP81 that they are 100% certain that it was an original DP81.
This is just a guess.
If its not this then it must either be someone making a fake RC 81 or I hope its not someone who thinks they got a good deal on a Royal Crown VMC81

Too bad the evaporators been gutted from the machine, and belt-line rust too, but still, way too high even if it were a Dr.Pepper machine originally.

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

Being that it is a generic machine, it could have also been a Canada Dry machine originally. The green used by CD and DP look pretty similar once they are both faded. In any event--way to much for this machine. Tim

Your right about the Canada Dry and Dr Pepper. I 'm almost done restoring a Dr Pepper VMC 81 and it was originally green when I started. I also have an original Canada Dry Vmc 81 and the green is real close to the DP green.
