Early 20th Century Vendos?

Came across these pics and couldn't help but think of vending machines. They probably never took hold because the actuators failed or didn't give the proper change. Kind of a unique take on a parking garage!

I remember seeing a couple of those in Ann Arbor, MI back in the early 70's.  They were at a parking lot near the University Hospital.  I remember thinking " a ferris wheel for cars!"

I believe Japan  uses them, or a similar style

They are also very common in Singapore. I had to park my van in one several times when I still lived downtown. They are a great solution to limited space issues.
