Hello Chaps

Have just completed the restoration of a Dubble Bubble vending machine. Its an old British Machine from the late 50's
works on one of our old pennies.

Its the first time I have ever seen a Dubble Bubble machine here in the UK. It was normally Wrigleys or Beechnut.
I'm thinking maybe off a US base (but then it would have vended in cents not pennies)..

Anyways... This machine vends individually wrapped bits of gum. I've done some searching and can only
find Big bags of Dubble Bubble. Do they still sell small packets of individual bits in places like Walmart. Would be
nice to get it vending again..

Hi Dave,

If the gum in Great Britan was the flat cubed gum like it was in the States back in the Fifties, you wont find any.  Canel Mexican gum works and Bazooka works in some of the fifties U.S. machines.

Here's a site of Double Bubble from Groovy Candies.

P.S.  What does the "D" stand for after the 1 on your British machines.  We have "C" for cents.

I remember the old British pennies from that era.  Wern't they similar in size to our half dollar?

Thanks guys..

Larry the D was the sign used for penny back before decimilization. Before 1971
The UK had a completely different money system.

Pennies, sixpenses, shillings, half crowns, all the way up to Soveriegns.

In 1971 everything changed to the ten like the US system. Before that there were 240 pennies to the pound...

Off to look at the groovycandies page...
