I was at an auction a few weeks back (when I got my V-81D). While waiting in line to pay, I struck up a conversation with a couple in from of me. They mentioned they had this old soda machine - Barq's, embossed, slider type. Turns out they lived about 5 miles from my house (we were at an auction 200 miles away).

Anyway, I called last week and said I wanted to come by and look at it. They got it 20+ years ago from a local bank (Valley National Bank). The bank employees were supposed to put a little extra coin in an honor box, but didn't. That is when the bank president (a friend of theirs) called and said get it out of here. Banks aren't known for losing money!  laugh

Awesome shape - quietly cools to 32 degrees (set on # 1), complete with rack and mech, (2) keys for the coin box, side door crank and plug lock with key.

Hi res pics in the Photo Gallery.

I have never seen lock and keys like that, anyone know if they are original to the Ideal company?

Thanks everyone! If it had been advertised somewhere, I'd have probably missed it.
It never hurts to talk to people about your hobby as someone somewhere may have one just like this sitting in their garage!

Glen,
I think I have seen remnants of this type lock, but never a whole much less working one!
There is nothing on the lock bezel, but on the blue part of the key is:
Van Lock Co Cin O - Pat No 2993361

Here is the Patent Info page

Tom You need to pinstripe, chrome the bottle opener and lid supports, put about 5 dozen misc decals all over it and then you'll have something....

In reality it looks better than what you described on the phone it looks great!

Nice score Tom!!! The sliders are great everyday users. All that baby needs is to be filled with beer and your in business! Its nice to know that you can still find great unrestored machines out there. Congrats again Tom!

I guess I need to talk about my hobby a lot more.  That is a great original slider.  I would clean up what needs to be cleaned and keep it just the way it is.

I hope my next addition is that nice!

That's a killer piece.  It looks way to good to mess with at all.  Give it a good cleaning / waxing and just enjoy it!

Great slider Tom! I had 1 of these years ago and it was original as well. I never had the locks like that tho. They're pretty cool.
On another note, I wonder if they had 2 different paint schemes as mine was an original but it was a light powder blue I think. I restored it back to your colours tho. My buddy bought it from me in Alabama and still has it and can't seem to get rid of it. I know he'd sell it cheap if any one is interested
