Compressor noisy and hot

Hi there,
I have Vendo 44, and the compressor usually made a little funny "ding-dong" sound, when it went on  .  Today I noticed the funny tune was gone and noticed the compressor is also extremely hot - can hardly touch it.  Is it normal, that the compressor is hot, when it's on ?  It cools down a bit, when it's off.  The coke is still cold.  Or is my compressor dead soon, and how to get it replaced ?  Can I change the part myself and from where to get a new compressor or should it be done by a refridgerator repair shop ? Any advice is appreciated.

I noticed the lower fan, next to the compressor is not running smootly and it gets stuck here and there making a sound.  Could this be the problem, also making the compressor hot, because the fan does not cool the condenser.

Yep!!! you found the problem! First don't run the machine until you get a new condensor fan motor! unplug it for now. the "ding-dong" sound you heard was probably the fan blade hitting the condersor coils , or sometimes it's the copper lines themselves hitting the chassis as they are rattled a little when the compressor starts, also make sure the coil isn't loose & hitting the fan blade when the compressor starts, as this can jiggle things around quite a bit do to the vibration of the compressor itself. hope it helps...JohnieG

Thanks JohnieG.  I unplugged the machine right after I found the problem.  Any ideas, from where I can find the new motor ?

You should be able to buy a fan from Eric at Global Compressors (toll free 877-856-4996).  He's a really easy guy to work with and specializes in vintage machines.  Have a good day.

Yes, several of the suppliers listed on this site can get you a replacement, but be aware that your fan may not fit onto the new motor, so you'll have to get a new fan also. you can try at grainger supply here's a link
