I bought a 60"x 40" Porcelain 2 sided  sign over the weekend item # 380265385377. What is the best way to go about cleaning & shining it up. It looks to be in excellent shape. Thanks Steve

Very Nice Purchase ! ! !

Clean with warm soap/water and for tougher stained areas, I have good success with softscrub w/ bleach...
Once cleaned well, I have even buffed and waxed porcelain signs with awesome results.

I`ve had great results on porcelain with a cotton-wadding product called Nevr-Dull Magic Wadding Polish. Comes in a blue 5oz tin and is designed for use on metals and showers, sinks, etc... it`s been around for decades and works perfectly...

It`s made by The George Basch Co in Freeport NY...

Thanks everyone for all the reply's. I picked this sign up yesterday and it is a beauty. Bought a cleaner called never dull and this sign turned out awesome. The shine and lust is incredible. I am in awe!! Does anyone one have any thoughts as to age and  where it could of hung 50- 60 years ago. I think te pat in the Pat  info indicates a year time frame. Thanks Steve

Where do you buy nevr dull? My metal shop teacher in high school let me use some once and it was some great stuff but I never figured out where you can get it.

I have another question for everyone, How do you identify a porclien sign. What is the differance between metal and porclien. Steve

Porcelain is made by layering glass and baking at high temp. It will be thick, if chipped will show the layers. Painted will just be flat.
Make sure you know what kind of sign you have before cleaning with harsh chemicals.

With out seeing it, or touching it, i'm guessing yes. Like Creighton said porcelain will have a layered look and feel, and will feel heavier.
If you've ever been to a flea market or Target or Michell's take a look at the tin sins they sell, you will see what is meant by a thicker  coat.  The tin signs are painted.

Good bet that the Coke part is porcelain. The Grocery is maybe paint. If you could post some close up pics may be able to help further.

99.9% sure the whole thing is porcelain... these where outdoor hanging signs and made well to survive the weather and that is why the look so good yet today.  I have one similar to this, 1935 vintage, Tulipped edge with privelage panel.. It's a 5 peice sign, the flat part is porcelain, the two end (Green) peices ar porcelain, and the two privelage panels are porcelain.. It's a great sign, wish I had a spot to hang it...
