I've got a Pepsi VMC 88 in the works and my customer wants it the Dark pepsi Blue and white two toned... I'm just trying to find a reference color to that dark pepsi blue to give to my paint guy... I like the one Jim has in the header..

Yes I realize this is not original to the VMC 88 but it 's what the customer wants.

any help or quidance would be great...

Did you repaint the Barqs 81 (in your avatar)?
That color looks pretty close.
The backside piece on the bottle door usually provides a pretty good sample to have matched.

I really like the Dark Blue like on Jims 81 in the Header on the top of the site page... I thnk that looks sharp.. the Barqs is all original still (main door) but still too lite for what I think I want.

I'm sure we'll figure something out, my painter has let me down yet... (except for price increases...  darn glare

John,

I'm not sure that would really give you an accurate color match because of reflections, color shifts and other misc. things that affect color... Talk to your paint supplier and see what they say. I'd be more than happy to send a photo but would hate for you to attempt a color match from a photo only to have bad results!

I'm gonna look in one other place tonight/tomorrow and see if I can find my paint sheet...

not looking to match off the photo.. just want to show the paint guy what I'm looking for so he can eye it up and find something close..

I see there are several shades out there on refinished pepsi machines.. I just don't want to the powder blue color, darker is all.

thanks if you have it I'd love to see the photo

My paint supplier doesnt give out codes. I can dab some on a piece of metal or something and send you a sample if you would like. The pictures make it look lighter but its really the dark blue. The scan was taken off a blue piece from an Ideal 49B.

Joey that stinks that your paint supplier keeps that information from you. So if you want more do you tell him you want more of the "Joey blue"?

Yes Sir, I bring in a sample, They scan it, They code it, and everything I have done is put in my folder. In my folder I have Dr Pepper Green, Pepsi Blue, RC Yellow, Coke red, etcI just call ahead of time and tell them who I am and what I want and when I get there its ready to go.

Joey,

Don't they put a sticker on the can with the code on it after they mix it up?

Yes they do but the code is a bunch of X's with a barcode that they can scan.

my paint supplier always give me the code for the paint I buy as they are not so secrective nor do they have the time to spend to be that way. Seems like they are preventing you from using another paint supplier. Not that it would take all that much to go to someone else.

I dont know why they do it that way. The closest competetion is 45 or so minutes away. The place is constantly busy. Its all done by their computer.

Cool thing about paint chips and todays modern mixing practices, it doesn't take much to move on to another supplier. But, if they are treating you well, why go to the bother. So long as you have what you want/need. Right?

Yep,
Thats it Pat, sorry didn't get back to you sooner, I had this section minimized and missed all last weeks posts? (didn't know you could do that?), anyway.

I had found a color through my paint guy and went to pick it up yesterday... here it is... Looks good!

Nice colour John. (no it's not a typo. That's how us Canucks spell color. LOL) I do all my machines around that shade of blue unless they are Canadian machines and originally yellow.

Looks great

And yes that is a lovely shade...

Only the compressor Compartment got the same attention as the outside, the insides after blasting get primered and then a rubberized, rustproofing material gets applied.  Mose of the time the bottom pan gets replaced, pretty much on most machines but lately some of these restos have had Excellent bottom pans, I mean No Rust.. even the insulation was good on inbetween the bottom of inner tub and bottom deck... Pretty rare to find them in nice shape.. so this particualar machine was left in and just treated to prevent any moisture issues in the far far future..I'm putting this one together now... got a ways to go yet on it however...
