i will be redoing my machine within the next couple of weeks and part of that will include painting. What type of paint should I use or can you recommend? Any other tips or things i should know? This will be my 1st time doing anything like this.

Are you going to be doing the painting yourself?

There are a lot of things involved with applying paint. I recently bought a book at Barnes and Noble and I found it to be very informative. Having pained some machines and a car, with excellent results, I still learned a lot from the book.
Right now I am using a Valspar single stage enamel and I am getting excellent results with it.
And believe it or not, a coke machine is an excellent first project. It is not so large that you get fatigued while applying the paint and if you mess up and get a run or fish eyes, just step back, let the paint dry, and then sand it down and try again.

I thought about just cleaning it up a little and doing the pedestal base, but I think the woodgrain has to go. I like the way that halehouse's compact turned out. I may try and get some inspiration from it as far as a paint scheme goes.

My base was done with Rustoleum Hammered Silver. It goes on great for an area like that.

Is that from a rattle can?

I used the same paint for the interior of one of the Juniors. I used a rattle can and the results were great. And if you want, it is available for paint gun applications also.

What was the title of the book?

'How to paint your car on a budget'. It appears to be a new release, I bought it at Barnes and Noble last month. I left it at work. If you need the Author's name I can get it Next Monday.
