Coinco not working

Hi, I just bought a cvc-168 pepsi for $50.00 It has a coinco changer(S75-9800A) in it. The previous owner said it gave incorrect change for some time. When I got it home it would not accept anything other than a dime, but it had taken quarters and nickles prior to me purchasing it. I thought I would try to fix it, so I cleaned it up with soap and water, then it wouldn't accept any coins, they just fell right through.
The change just goes through to the changer. I thought maybe it needed to be filled with coins so I filled it with nickles and tried again, but no luck. So, I called around to see if anybody worked on them I was told this type of changer was a throughaway model and could not be repaired They want to sell me a reconditioned newer model for $65.00
Does that sound right to you all? They said it would run me $75.00 unless I gave them my old one. Does anybody know if I can get my old changer repaired? or should I just go with the reconditioned one? Thanks, ssab1

I assume (hope) that when you cleaned it you removed the top portion (slug rejector) from the mech?
'> if so then the slug rejector simply may not be seated right in its holding slots, you drop it into the lower slots at about a 45 degree angle & swing the top closed until it the clips click it into place, also it must be hung "plumb" (vertically level that is) & all three mounting screws/stud should be inserted into the keyhole shaped slots on the back of the mech. also make sure the coin return lever isn't being pushed down by anything like the power cord, etc. if it's down even a little it'll dump the coins right into the coin return cup, try to observe the coins as the drop down into the mech. & see if it clears the slug rejector portion on its way to the coin switches, if the machines empty switches are activated... ie: no soda's in the racks... it'll reject all coins too, basically see if it seems to be a mechanical rejection or an electronic rejection, keep us informed with what you see & maybe we can help.
:'>
PS if it's just a flakey slug rejector then you could just replace that portion of the mech & reuse your lower electronic section,,,"throw way" indead! easy to say when you got 10+ spares sitting on the shelf! geezzz.
