Be very careful on that machine. I have one of these and man is it heavy. I even have the smaller carbon dioxide tank. I moved it three times, with help. It first went into my van, then out of my van, and finally to the other side of my garage, and each time that old hernia pain starts acting up. I still don't know who's going to volunter to assist me into the basement, if I ever get around to checking it out. So far the furthest that I moved this beast was twenty feet. The basements a good 75 feet away with four stairs. |

This thread is about a VMC139 (not a Mills 400-C) even though both machines have the weight issue in common.
A far as moving it...I haven't moved much into basements (not common in AZ), but I did help a friend move some heavy stuff (fridge, 8' pool table) into one a long time ago in Dallas with about 15-20 skinny steps (30"). There were 3 of us and what we did was use a floor dolly wherever/whenever we could. First, we wrapped the piece up well, strapped it to a piece of plywood before moving it around. We simply slid it down the steps on carpet remnants we got from a carpet company for cheap. Used a GOOD rope looped around the bottom. We had the rope around our waist like a rock climber and walked it down from above. The third guy was below to help after we felt we had it steadily going down. Sounds pretty entailed, but it really worked out well.

Holy Crap, Larry! My old hernia hurt just from reading the brochure and seeing 470 lbs for that machine of yours!! I'm sure Brian (Seven181) has offered to help you move it (although not likely to the same place as you had in mind for it)! Like Tom said, if you like it, buy it! |

I know the thread was for a 139 or 149. When I said "I have one of these" I was talking about what was in the pictures that I posted. It does sound like I am talking about the 139. Bad english, I reckon.
I saw the picture of the Vendolator and it reminded me of my machine. It is a very deceiving machine because the size makes it look much lighter. It's tall, narrow, not too wide, but extremely heayy!!! I just want to make sure that if he picks it up he will know to bring some help. I tilted the Mills back on a dolly and I could not pick it back up. I think I reripped my gut in the process.
I do like the rope trick for the stairs. I moved down a race car game by sliding it on some real thick cardboard and I had two people on top and one on the bottom of the stairs. The two on top, because of the narrow stairs, do get in each others way. Using a rope and spacing the two people back from each other should do the trick. Thanks for the tip!
Greg, I know Brian would love to help move it ........ out of state.
