Replacing the tub  should be easy, the hard part is finding the correct  size piece to replace it.  Is the mercury tube broken ?

The Merury tube is broken and there is nothing left just a empty tube.

Pat, I've replaced  quite a few of them, as long as you have the right size and have a accurate thermometer beside the one you are replacing so you can get the new one tied on in the correct temperature position, most of them tie on with metal bands.

i guess my  next question is   is there a site or  store  that  sells the replacements? There has to be a cheaper alternative than buying a  new thermometer   to cannibal it.
