Hi Guys I am trying to replace the T-Stat and cable on my flat top vmc 56 but I can't seem to get the power supply open? The side panel flicked off OK for the Evap motor wires but the main body seems to be clamped tight, I didn't want to force it incase the bakelite shattered anybody got any ideas?

thanks
Russell

you must carefully drill out the center holes/ hollow rivet securing the bottom cover to the shell, then use a long threaded screw & nut to reassemble it.

Just checking here...

So, physically drill out (as in destroy!)with a powerdrill the brass section in the middle?

If you're careful, you won't destroy it.
Get a drill bit slightly larger that the hole and slowly drill until the brass ring begins to spin, that's it!
After rewiring, install as before with a ground wire attached to the new mounting bolt/screw.

My six cents,
