A while ago I posted about a Seeburg G I found on Craigslist. While It's still not ready, it's making some progress. In the 50+ years, someone painted the mech covers disco glitter gold, and the cabinet primer gray. The seller claimed he was playing it up until a few months before it went up for sale. The dust and grime said otherwise.

So during the move, I noticed what i thought was mouse droppings in the coin return and in the bottom of the cabinet. I was close, it was was actually termite droppings. Now sane people would have parted it out, and chalked it up to first time lessons. Instead, we decided, Let's build a new cabinet!!!! Yeah, no one said I was sane. I think I saved some of the support pieces, after baking them in an oven for an hour at 300 degrees. The rest was all cut from new wood.

I've been taking pics as we go along, and posting them at Flickr to document the whole project, so let me skip ahead to it's current state: I am most proud of the front bottom of the cabinet. Most of the original wood was missing due to rot and termite buffets, so a full template wasn't available. the bottom front is veneered, so you can't see the half dozen pieces that were glued together then sanded to get the shape right. The cabinet is red oak, with one coat of stain (it is mentioned in my attempt to be humorous in another thread, and yes, this is a self promo ) The only veneer is the bottom front bezel and the side edges And while i cringe when i see Cavalier coolers converted to couches or trailers, I couldn't see putting back the chrome pilasters that came from the factory. So while I am usually a pursst, I went with animated light units and white pilasters. I think it was/is a good choice

Actually the chrome pilasters were a conversion kit made by Wico. Factory original equipment was the white pilasters with fluorescents behind them.

Glad to be set straight. I found several mail lists and other web sites that claimed the chrome pilasters were factory issued, and most "original machines" I've seen didn't have the animated units. and I advocate "just because it is said with sincerity, doesn't mean it's true: I visited your site many a time to identify a machine, and admire your collection, so thank you for the info Ken

My Seeburg G had the chrome plisters in it. I was told that this was done at the factory and Seeburg C had the light up plisters?

I guess I'll have to wait untill I get on my home PC to see the pictures but I'll take the others word for how it looks, can't wait to see for myself!
My M100B that I finished up a couple of years ago had a ton of termite damage as well. I ended up getting a good used cabinet from John Durfee for a what I considered a good price. I wasn't quite ready to try and build a cabinet from scratch, that's awesome!

I also think the metal pilaster is original as my set of original Seeburg Manuals has this juke pictured with the metal pilasters. I believe there where several reproductions for the "G" to add the illuminated pilasters... If my memory serves me, the Seeburg "J" is almost identical to the "G" except the "J" has illuminated pilasters for original equipment.

Whoops... As stated, it's the Seeburg W that is similar to the "G". Below are the examples...
Top --> Original Seeburg G Middle --> Seeburg G w/ illuminated pilasters Bottom --> Original Seeburg W

The chrome pilasters on mine were in decent shape, no major dings or dents, but I thought the animated units would look better. Once we fitted them in the cabinet, and plugged in the units, I realized I made a good choice. And besides the patchwork pilasters, and diamonds on the grills, the W was not High Fidelity, unlike the G. Finally, thanks everyone for the support. Hopefully weather permitting, will finish the staining and inside paint, then move on to the mechanics. This will also give me some time to find replacement chrome pieces for the selection button section. While not pitted to bad, each end has cracks, and it may be cheaper to find better pieces than try to repair before re chrome Plans are also in the works to add blue neon underneath. It was suggested by my friend Randy who is helping me with this project, and clinched when Pat, Johnie G and I stopped at a going out of business sale at a Pep's Boys. If it looks to goofy, they were only half price, so I can sell them to my neighbor to finish tricking his 4 door Dodge Neon

I think the blue lights will look great on the chrome.. You did a hell of a job on that cabinet. Can't wait to see it stained.
